We had a good time today at the centre, the staff are very helpful and from what we understand many are volunteers. My husband was over the moon as he got to handle a golden eagle as well as a hawk and an owl. Well worth a visit.
I was given the full day experience as a present and I had a great time there. Lee took me around in the morning and was especially informative about the birds and let me handle most of them, ranging from Falcons to Hawks to owls. This was followed by a flying display in which I had an eagle land on my arm. Later I went on a relaxing hawk walk, flying the hawk several times, supervised by Andy. It was a great day out and special thanks to Lee, Andy and George. Their love for the birds was contagious and warm and I'm already thinking about my next visit. Full marks all round.
I love birds of prey and at this centre you get to handle them, fly them and learn all about them. They are pretty good at tea and sandwiches as well!
This was a really splendid afternoon...the birds are well-displayed and there are varieties we had never heard of! It is a really good site and a credit to the owners...we will certainly return and bring our grand-daughters.
visited the bird of prey centre today and loved it, me and my husband did a hawk walk and it really was amazing, both of us animal lovers and bird of prey lovers, the staff were great and knew a lot about all the birds, looking forward to going again in summer! highly recommended.
Thanks to all the staff who were very knowledgable of their area of expertise, i had first time life experiences today , I would certainly recommend a visit, you will not be disappointed.
We arrived around midday with a 3 & a 5yr old wondering if it would be appropriate for them. As soon as we walked through the door they were made to feel welcome & were asked what they would like to see & do. The centre is run on volunteers who are very friendly & funny. Lots of banter between them & the visitors, we loved it. The adults & the children were able to handle the birds or just stroke them if they were a little wary. The children were invited to feed the reindeer & the red deer & loved it. The flying demonstrations were excellent with several birds flying at once on occasions, & there were plenty of photographic opportunities. The staff are extremely informative & knowledgeable about their birds. You can tell from the interaction between man & bird that they are passionate about what they do & that the birds are very well cared for. To top it of the weather was glorious. All in all a very good day out for just £23 & a few pence.
Visited the York bird of prey centre today and what a wonderful hands on experience it was ! Very impressed with the set up here ,over 70 inhabitants to see and interact with ( if reqd) staff so friendly ,knowledgeable ,and confident with the birds ,a special mention to Lee and George ( a father & son volunteer team ) who were particularly helpful , informative, funny and a pleasure to be around ! Their love of the birds was so obvious ! This place is a hidden gem and has something for everyone , old and young alike ,well worth a visit ,wishing Andy and the team continued success , well done and a big thank you ! ! !
We visited for a half day experience and spent all afternoon there. Our time was filled with bird displays, bird handling, tours and talks. The staff and volunteers there are fantastic and so helpful and knowledgable. They really make you feel at home and have genuine respect and warmth for their birds. You are allowed a lot of access to the birds and there is a real sense of the birds having freedom yet enjoying their home! I handled many birds, including a golden eagle! I also saw baby owls at just 2 weeks old. Truly unforgettable and lots of birds to see. Recommended for adults and children.
Visited today (a Saturday) and was so so impressed! It's a lovely little place, well off the beaten track so didn't really expect much but it exceeded my expectations. It's totally informal so you feel free to chat to the staff (the bloke we were chatting too was a volunteer), and they go out their way to be helpful. You really need the weather for this place but luckily it was a lovely day today. There's a little cafe too that's incredibly reasonably priced - we got 3 cups of tea, a bottle of water and 3 cake/biscuits for about £7. The birds didn't always behave or come back when called haha but they were healthy and well looked after and that's all that matters, and the staff clearly dote on them. Couldn't recommend this place highly enough. Definitely worth a visit!
A nice family run facility. Very good few hours spent here. The birds are clearly very well cared for and the staff introduce some fascinating facts and figures during the course of the demonstrations.
Only managed a couple of hours here the heavens opened up for us but we will be back again hopefully to handle a bird next time. what excellent care is given to these precious birds, the staff are so helpful and we also had a cuddle with the resident deer ! so very tamejust wish my grandchildren could have been with us they would have loved the experience.
I took my elderly parents to the York bird of prey centre yesterday. What a fantastic afternoon out. We not only had the opportunity to see all the hawks, eagles and owls, but saw some of them fly and best bit, the chance to handle any bird you wanted to and all for the price of £7.00 for two with a groupon. The staff were friendly and well informed, Andy is a real joy to spend time with,(a volunteer who had only just finished a night shift hours before!) his passion for the birds is a pleasure to see.The very lovely Margaret ended our visit with a chance to hold "one they made earlier" a beautiful baby owl.We highly recommend a visit to this gem of a place.
I visited the centre with my OH, 2 children (2.5 and 3 months) and their nana and had a brilliant time. The staff were fantastic, very knowledge friendly and wanted to make sure we really enjoyed our visit. Zak was brilliant with our little girl who was a bit wary of the birds but by the end wanted to stroke the barn owl Angel. We got to handle the birds and best of all the golden eagle! This is a fab place to visit and we will definitely be back!
Want to photograph birds of prey in differing situations then this is the place to go. Not only will you be made welcome by the staff but they will go out of their way to ensure you get the opportunity to take "the shot"On top of that a cosy cafe with good food and great service.Wether alone, a group or a family day out, a great experience and well worth a visit.
