Just love the Hippodrome; we saw "Top Hat" and it was a great production. In recent years also been to Hippodrome Ballet performances as well. Never disappoints!
Every year me and my family go and see the panto and we are never disappointed, each year they some how seem to top it!! Fantastic family shows, something for everybody
a lovely venue for children to show off their talents. my granddaughters dance troup did a lovely show here last year, & the seating was good. lighting good, & the facilities very good.
This is a great theatre that delivers first class performances. If you love ballet, dance and music, this is the place to see it. Every event I have had the pleasure of seeing here has been breathtaking. Make the Rep a reason to visit Birmingham.
Ten of us had lunch in the circle restaurant before watching a matinee performance by the Birmingham Royal ballet. Food was excellent, presentation really good too, wine list short but good and nicely priced. Only let down by the service - not attentive enough.
Visited the Panto in February and absolutely loved it , Brum always produces a brilliant one every year and this one was no exception . Matt Slack was awesome ( think a bald Brian Conley ) and the rest of the cast excelled in a wonderful theatre. The reason for the review isn't the Panto ( good as it was ) but for outstanding customer service . I chose our 2 seats from the seating plan as I am 6' 8" and need lots of leg room . The seat's I picked were hopeless and I had no legroom or space in front of them ( Tip: Don't trust the on-line seating plan , ring and ask the staff ). I had a word with the usherette ( Lovely lady called Glynis ) and she agreed my seats were no good . She rang her boss on the radio and between them they organised a box for myself and my wife , this had acres of leg room and meant we could enjoy the Panto in comfort . Nowadays good customer service is a dying thing but our spirits were raised by the care and attention shown by Glynis and the Hippodrome management , thank's to all concerned and see you soon.
Travelled down from Newcastle to spend valentines evening watching Matthew Bournes production of Edward Scissorhands. The show was well worth traveling for and I'd highly recommend it to all. The Hippodrome itself seemed a fairly modern theatre and had some comfortable areas to sit and relax before the show began. Bar prices were a little steep, but aren't they always at big events? A cracking weekend.
Have seen a lot of very good shows here and have given tats as gifts .Everybody was very grmeatfull and enjoyed themselves.
Situated in the China centre of Birmingham the Hippodrome provides an ideal venue for a theatre experience. High quality shows in a top class theatre is guaranteed with excellent places to eat nearby or in the theatre itself.
Excellent venue for theatre. I have seen at least 10 shows over the years here and my experience on all occasions has been good or better , nice place to take the wife to see a good show
We have a great Theatre as the Birmingham Hippodrome. I have used this place since I was a child when I used to see a lot of shows beside my Father who would do a stint there as he was a St Johns Ambulance Volunteer. I still use the Theatre now as done so for many years with my Husband to see some lovely shows. its as good if not better than the theatres in London.
Birmingham Hippodrome is a really good, accessible theatre. I visit with my daughter who is a full time wheelchair user, and their website is one of the easiest ways to book a show for a disabled visitor. Most places you would have to telephone to book for disabled access, but the Hippodrome makes it just as easy as for ordinary bookings. We usually pick an isle seat and transfer my daughter and her chair is then safely stowed until we need it again. There are spaces for wheelchair visitors who wish to remain in their chairs in the auditorium also though. The toilets, both for those people with a disability and general visitors are spacious and clean. Lifts provide access to all floors, but at busy times it can be frustrating to wait to get in to one due to the amount of non disabled people using the lifts, when there is a lovely, wide, sweeping staircase available. All in all, a great place to visit to see some wonderful shows, and the panto is always a big draw. Easy to find, easy to park, great location.
Bean going last 2 years its brillant,no just for children adults love it as well.also seen seen other performances not one has dissapointed.Facilies great, staff very helpful, meals in resturant fab.Bar in reception well priced and staff very friendly.
First visit to a really lovely facility. The show was excellent, seats good and a reasonably priced bar with great service.
The Hippodrome is a wonderfully capacious Victorian theatre which, despite recent modernisation of the stage, foyer, restaurant, stairs and bars, (which were well overdue), the vast auditorium has retained an old-world charm where visibility and sound are generally good. It lacks air-conditioning and at times the heat can be stifling. However, compared with London, the prices of seats here are very reasonable and also unlike many of the capital's theatres, outside noise rarely impinges. Our most recent visit was to see Edward Scissorhands , a show full of buzz and colour but totally reliant on a piped accompaniment, with which the cast managed to work very adequately and the quality of this music was excellent. The theatre restaurant is also an excellent destination pre-theatre and the staff are very comfortable about receiving guests going to a show. Having the Birmingham Royal Ballet (previously known as the Sadlers Wells Ballet) resident with a ballet school is a serious priviledged bonus as well as being a permanent host for the Welsh National Opera, the icing on the cake.
