Cabo Girao is a very interesting spot - a glass floor and balcony view of the coast but those souvenir sellers do spoil the visit !
The Island is full of viewpoints and after you've been to a few, they all seem pretty much the same give or take a hill or two. What makes this one special and therefore a "must see", is the glass walkway from which you can look straight down 580 metres onto the patchwork of cultivated fields . Not for the faint hearted, but beautiful if you can stomach it.
Well, it's the done thing to visit Cabo Girao, and tourism make the most of it. But it is in danger of becoming a bit tacky, with souvenir sellers, etc., touting for your custom. Geologically, it's a fascinating place, and worth a visit on that account alone. But you wouldn't need to go twice.Contrary to popular belief, it is not the second highest cliff in the world, just the fourth...sorry, to be pedantic.
anyone who goes to madeira has to go here!!!! CAMERA AND VIDEO are a must as the view is GR8, the glass floor is excelent but not to my wifes liking !!!!!
The view from here was amazing albeit a bit scary as you can walk on a glass platform. It's a must to have a fantastic view of Funchal.
This viewpoint offers excellent views over Funchal, and of the sea below if you have a good head for heights. There is an easy circular walk. Turn left from the mirador and take the road down. You soon see a village far below. Locate the church and use that as a marker. There are several cafes in the village. On the way back bear right along a footpath through gardens. This eventually brings you to a road sign posted for Cabo de Girao. This brings you, via a hamlet with a restaurant, back on a road directly opposite Cthe mirador.
Not for people nervous of heights. The view is breathtaking and the skywalk thrilling as you look down the cliff face through the glass platform you're standing on. There are some stalls selling souvenirs and crafts, also toilets, although it looked as if there might be a charge as there was what I took to be an attendant at a table at the entrance.
The guide said it's a highest sea cliff in Europe, which is not quite truth :) But still a thing you must see when in Madeira. It's located not far from Funchal, and most tours have it in a program. The skywalk is unbelievable - just glass under your feet and then the sea 600m down. Just make sure you get there on the sunny day, otherwise you might not see much!
Visited as part of the blue route on the yellow bus. It drops you at Camara de Lobos and then you get the free mini bus up a winding road to the view point. Great views! Shame there isn't a cafe here too. Worth visiting.
We visited Cabo Girâo from a recommendation. We where stunned with how they built the place. Our 2year old absolutely loved it and was not one bit freaked out by the glass and view. We have some amazing pictures and memories to remember this place. Please fix the entrance sign as some letters missing and degrades the place unnecessarily
Don't be put off by the thought of walking out onto a piece of glass at the highest cliffs in Europe. It ain't that scary. You get some good views and the toilets are clean at 50 cents.
Did this as part of the yellow bus city tour blue line trip. Well worth it just for the views on the way up and down. The glass viewing platform is very clever and really not that scary once you get used to it, fantastic views down to the coast. Just goes to show you can grow produce anywhere if you know how to work the land.Loos at the top - 50 cents and the usual tourist shops.
It used to be quite awkward getting to Cabo Girao but the small travel agents selling the tours now include it as a new tour. You travel by mini bus up the winding hillside roads until you get to the very top which will be a blessing to the elderly or people with mobility problems as you will have very little walking to do. I did find it a bit nerve racking walking on a glass floor with a very long drop below me but the views and scenery were amazing. also worth a visit is the cable car from Funchal to Monte and the volcanic caves at Sao Vicente.
Some spectacular views from the top of Cabo Girao, a little daunting walking over the glass floor but it didn't give way lol. A marvellous bus trip up to the top of this cliff and wonderful coastal views .
Ok, so it is quite touristy, but you can't deny the awesome scale of this cliff. The glass platform was slightly freaky if you don't like heights! Good views along the coast on a nice day
