This is by far the best golf course on the island. Every hole is a challenge for any golfer of any handicap. The courses are championship quality and the food in the clubhouse is excellent.
Machico (red) and Desertas (blue) are the champion courses. Every single hole is a tough challenge - and a wonderful experience. But just stop for a second, look around and enjoy the moment. The view is stunning! Yellow (da Serra) is more comfortable. But nevertheless a really good golf course. And to all the people (caddie mastery, restaurant, workers on the course)... Just thank you all for making my days! .Every other guest I talked to agreed with me.You can not be better treated as a guest than on Santo da Serra Golf.(ten years ago my handicap was 10,9)
A real treat this course, worth the trip to Madeira. I'd heard of it through the Madeira Open and was curious to play, not disappointed and quite overwhelmed by the level of the course. Clubhouse was lovely, the non-golfers stayed there happily with the free wifi and then met us for lunch. Do visit, very impressive views.
What an amazing place views to die for....coming from the Lake District in the UK we are used to good views but this was stunning. Never having really played golf before we booked a lesson with Dara the course Pro.He showed us round the course and then put us through our paces .....Nelson turned out to be left handed and for a stiff old farmer with huge hand looked quite impressive once he got the hang of it.After the lesson we headed for the club house for a drink & light lunch... Both excellent .We were made to feel very welcome and not at all out of place. A must for anyone with half a day to spent enjoying what this Island has to offer.
Dear Charles,Thank you for taking the time to write your review of our golf course, your comments are very much valued. The satisfaction of our guests has highest priority. Thank you again, and we look forward to seeing you on your next trip to Santo da Serra Golf Club!Best regards, Clube de Golf do Santo da Serra
Played at Santo again last weekend and I just love this course. The fairways showed signs of the summer which gets quite dry on the island, but as it had rained overnight recovery was well underway. Really enjoyed the approach and green which are in perfect conditions. Great memory from the 4th hole, where I made a birdie on the signature hole - which is one of the most attractive holes I´ve played on and well deserves to be the THE hole of the course.Lunch was delicious we had the steak sandwich with a beer and a passion fruit juice on the terrace for under 10euros each. Watching the beautiful views to the golf course and sea below with the odd plane taking off way below was magic. Will return again soon for sure.
Thank you very much for your feedback. Summer was strong in August and the fairways got damaged. In these last two weeks, we had rain and the fairways are recovering well as usual in this time of year. In August the greens had annual maintenance (aerification) and during the first week maintenance they had a lot of sand. Now in September, the greens look fantastic. The aim of the reforestation program was to reverse the damage caused by invasive and non-endemic species while adding additional value to the course in terms of its natural habitat. Eucalyptus and acacia trees were removed and about 16 thousand new trees species that are endemic to the island, were planted which will ultimately enhance our courses natural outstanding beauty. Although the external features of the course have changed, this has not affected the course play and our new open spaces have proved popular and challenging to our players. Now our fairways are in much better shape than in August. Hope to see you again at the Clube de Golf Santo da Serra.
Can't beat it for a cup of slightly expensive coffee, because you get the amazing views with the peninsula running out into the ocean. Food good, service polite
3 holes of 9 so you can choose which to play. We didn't take any clubs so used the great offer of buggy, club hire and 18 holes after 2pm. Nice food at lunch time and also used the driving range, The courses all have fantastic views particularly those overlooking the peninsula and the Desertas Islands.
This has to be one of the best 27 hole (3 x 9 hole) golf course anywhere. The course is always 110& The staff are always 110%The food is always 110%I have been playing here every year for the last 10 or so years and never had reason to complain. They now do good week deals at €295 unlimited golf for 7 days, plus other attractive packages. It is only 40 mins from funchal and easy to drive or they do a shuttle service to pick and drop you off...I walk the course and i am not a particularly fit, however it is steep walking in places, buggy hire is available.Great practice facilities as well from putting, chipping and driving range. They also hire clubs,..The Pro is an Irish chap who is extremely friendly and helpful...Everyone who plays golf should try this course...
Fantastic course and facilities...what more can I say? Was only going to play once but ended up playing all three courses, but not all on the same day. The course is in great condition, the greens are fast and designed to make you think, and you can't help but stop and look at the views, which are in themselves stunning. My favourite hole had to be the second on the Desertas course. You feel that you are teeing off from the top of the world! I have met some great people and had a great couple of days and thoroughly recommend that this course joins your 'must play' course list.
one gets beautiful views/scenery from most of the golf course. Challenging course but very pleasant spot of the Island
With 27 holes and three courses to choose from you are spoilt for choice. The settings are idylic and showcase Madeira's and the courses natural beauty and stunning vistas. The courses are in excellent condition and inviting. The customer service was excellent as was the restaurant with its stylish surroundings, friendly staff, delicious and beautifully presented food. It just made a special day even more special.
This has to be one of the most scenic golf courses Europe, sea views on nearly every hole. Very welcoming staff, the discount through our hotel eased the pain of the green fees. Good condition despite the variable unseasonal weather which caused additional green keeping issues.Very good and testing golf course, as you would expect from a course used on the European Tour. My wife and I are both single figure golfers and found the course exceedingly demanding on both our golf and our walking fitness. I would recommend a buggy for most mere mortals.Hopefully will return one day.
Let's get one thing clear at the beginning. I am not a golfer. I like my sports to be a competition against one or more others, where what you do, both mentally and physically, has a direct result on the others playing. Golf, despite the protestations of golfers, is not like that. What you do or do not do has no effect whatsoever on the way your companions play.So why was I at the Santo da Serra Golf Course? I can answer in two words: Lunch and the View. The latter is just spectacular. Well, on a clear day it is. On the day we went it was variable but when the clouds (and the rain) disappeared the view was wonderful to the end of Madeira and beyond.Lunch looked as if it might be disappointing. The board outside the restaurant mentioned one Dish of the Day which was certainly not one I would choose. However, there was a much more extensive menu inside and both my wife and I found something to enjoy. There really is nothing to criticise. The staff were friendly, the food was good and the service was fine as long as you were not in any hurry. On the day we were there someone seemed to have organised a golf buggy race for a crowd of, well, let's just say Young Ladies. I didn't think they did such things at International Golf Courses but what would I know? Perhaps I should give the game another go!Getting to Santo da Serra is not that easy. At least it wasn't for the exhausted Renault Clio I had hired which seemed to spend half of the journey in first gear. Still. it was worth it and I'd do it again.
