A fantastic overview over the city and at the top a nice place to enjoy a cuo of tea or a snack at the hotel, wich by the the way deserve to be seen. I'm from MADEIRA and sometimes i go up there to have a coffee. Obviously it is a turistic spot, sometimes overcrowded (it's the place where the tobogans descend to the city) another curiosity. My advice for tourism in general, take the cable car up, have a coffee, see the local craft but do not buy anything there and slide with the toboggan straight to the center.

I'm not keen on cable cars but this was a smooth 15 minute ride up to Monte affording wonderful views of Funchal below.Avoid Monday mornings as that's when the cruise ships are in and there are huge queues.

We went up, we looked around a bit, we came back down. Not a lot more to say; the run is quite lengthy and you get to critique the state of a lot of back gardens and building sites as you 'fly' overhead, and you can play spot the cat (or chicken)! value for money? Erm, pass.

Have a ride to Monte with the Funchal cable car. You will see great views of the island and, once up, you will have the chance to take the sledge back down.

At first thought 10 euros was a bit steep as the bus to Monte had cost us 1.30. But it was so worth it for the views and the experience. What a way to travel back to Funchal, highly recommended! Also enjoyed by my mother who is scared of heights, the cable car felt very stable.

Very we'll organised and very smooth ride. You feel very safe all the way.The views over the city and over the valley are great.

Great experience ,beautiful view on a clear day ,some queing to join, but very smooth arrangement . Well worth the trip

easy to access from Funchal sea front, easy to buy tickets and fun to ride, a good way to spend half a day

Delightful as it is, you have to ask yourself why are you going to Monte. It's a lovely place and the Quinta do Monte hotel is excellent; the church is of interest to those who have an interest in churches, although the little chapel in the ground of the hotel is more persuasive, architecturally.Of course, you could be going to the toboggan run, great experience, that gets you to Livramento, and then it's either a taxi back up, or a taxi down...do not attempt to walk down, back to Funchal, not unless you have sturdy knees.Or maybe you just like cable cars, in which case this is a fine experience, lasting about 15-20 minutes, and borderline pricey at €15 for the round trip.

Fair price for a trip that was longer than expected. We liked the fact that you did not get crammed in to the car with other people and could travel a s a couple. Views were very good but what we appreciated most was the feat of engineering to build the cable car.

Paniek

The views from the cable car are extremely nice but paying 10 EUR for a single ticket is quite hefty.

Only went down, views of whole bay out of this world. Best way to observe the old tows back streets and lay out

Lovely views efficient service - should do it - it's a cable car ride so the views is the only part that varies - it's a good way to get an idea of how the land lies in Funchal - and boy does it do a lot of up and downs!! Driving is fun!

Very efficient service and reasonable with the exchange rate, best to decide what you want to see, before you decide to go.We plumped for the one way ticket, then came down part the way on toboggan run, then walked back into Funchal. It's a long walk down steep roads, looking back would probably catch the bus, from across the road, as taxi's expensive.Once you get there, nice café at top.Overall a very efficient and safe experienceIf a cruise ship is on port, queues can be very long

great way to see the town from the air - of course. Views over the surrounding area and harbour/maeina
