This is the fourth oldest university in Europe and a fascinating stop in Salamanca. The imagination can only take hold as you look at the wooden "desks" where students have sat for centuries and carved their initials into the wood. As a physician I marveled at the inscription that listed the required subjects for the curriculum in medicine, including philosophy and astronomy!
The architecture of this University must make it the most interesting to look at in the world. The sense of history and learning spreads across the whole city, making it a very special city indeed.
These visits always impress me on how the clergy had an upper hand on all thing in the Middle Ages in all European countries. This location is impressive also by its size and the magnitude of the rooms and facilities. It is important to visit these sites to better understand where we come from and how these institutions served as models or guidelines for centuries that followed. It is a must visit when in Salamanca.
We paid to visit the structure and then wondered why. Interesting collections and art but not a place I would spend time were we evr to return to Salamanca.
Interesting view of a university specially built for the Company of Jesus , the jesuits, the pictures around the cloister depict the life of St. Ignatius of Loyola. The auditoriumis amazing, the "retablo" in the church is classic from those times and the view of the city from the towers is great. Highly recommended.
a very interesting guided tour, only in spanish of the university. very well kept and many part are restored their is no english cards and the tour is in spanish but still worth the 3euro to take the tour, the clumb to the tower is nice with a good view on a clear day. Salamanca is a nice city if you have a car for about one day visit
Very nice visti, our guide was very helpful, and the visit up the towers was very nice, even tho there was a lot of fog, we could get a nice view of rooftops of the city
