It is a short walk. You can view this neighborhood in an hour or less, depending your speed. Again great sites and amazing places to eat. Tapas bar, beautiful restored apartments for sale or rent. The walk behind the Cathedral, the XIX century buildings are worthwhile.Prepare to go uphill most of the time and don't do it if you are carrying a lot of luggage. In places there is no wheelchair access, but you can avoid those streets.
We walked around the Juderia and got lost many times. The streets are narrow and you do not know where they lead to. However the Juderia is very clean and many of the buildings have been restored. I liked how they finished some of the walls, with etched designs.
You get lost in the past when walking these streets! I remember my friends and I literally getting lost on some of the windy streets when I visited back in 2005. Regardless the wonderful architecture and the total feel that you are walking in the past make strolling through this historic part of Segovia a must.
You can find in Segovia an old Jewish Quarter where you can find some houses, synagogue and another places from the time Jews lived in Spain. The Quarter is amazing and you will feel like in an old time for a while.
This is a surprise to see a Sinagoga in a small Middle Age street. The presence of Jewish seemed to be overlooked in the past history of Spain, mas this small neighbourhood is the testimony of their discret living in this small old city.
The Juderia in Segovia has a small museum that provides views into the past, as well as displaying artifacts from the town's lost Jewish community. The area of the Juderia is well marked for interested tourists. Although the former synagog is now a church, and open on only a few days, it still is worth visiting. There are no English translations for the signage, which is a small drawback, but having a window into history always is worthwhile.
This is a beautiful area of the city. Sadly we should remind ourselves that because of the envy of their ability to make money through commerce, the Jews were expelled from Segovia and other cities - some were massacred (Marano massacre of 1474); others fled and others converted to Christianity.
What can we add to the superb reviews of Moises Hassan? His warm personality, communication skills in English and indepth knowledge of many topics including Sevilla, Spain's Jewish and general history from a Jewish perspective turned our 3 hour tour into 5 hours . Moises's unique approach to his subject matter, his willingness to share personal Jewish stories and genuine interest in our stories set the stage for an unscripted and relaxed experience for us, his visitors. He was always ready to digress and answer our questions. He was also happy to sit and continue discussion when we needed to rest. We strongly recommend booking your Jewish tour with Moises. Based on his reviews, he not only lived up to my expectations but, in fact, surpassed them.
Interesting sites around the Cathedral of the City, it has to be walked and visited, also nice views of the surroundings of the city.
We enjoyed our visit to the tranquil Segovian Juderia. We visited the former synagogue which is now a church, the Didactic Center and took an interesting walk over to the Jewish cemetery. From here, there are panoramic views of Segovia. If you are interested in pre-expulsion Jewish history, do not miss it.
there is a small jewish center/museum in old segovia that bears some objects and offers some views of the old comunity history. However, the sinagogue is closed and former older buildings, now part of an monastery, is also closed to visitation. The jewish agenda is too limited for the importance of former jewish heritage of the city
The old Jewish town can be done walking for a few minutes you can also enjoy the views from the wall in different points on this neighborhood.
La Juderia is a beautiful neighborhood with tons of history. Highly recommend going with a guide or someone who knows the history of the area. There is a beautiful park hidden that has an amazing view of cemeterio de los judios.
A friend arranged for a guided tour of the Juderia. The guide was Leticia Gonzalez Calabaza of Visitas Guiadas en Segovia. Leticia was very knowledgeable about the history of Segovia (both the history of the Juderia and more generally) and made my day trip from Madrid a great experience.
I believe it cost 2.5 Euros when I visited March 2013. It contains 2 rooms. The first small room is primarily an overview of Jewish tradition. The second room is a little larger and has some basic information on the Jewish heritage of Segovia, a 10 minute movie type presentation on a Jewish ceremony, and a few other displays of information. I read most everything in both rooms and watched the presentation and spent approx. 20 minutes in the center. It is good to visit, but does not take much time to experience. i found the history of Jewish history in Segovia to be interesting, yet sad that it is a history of the past. It appeared to me this center is attempting to share that there was a Jewish history and culture in Segovia, but there really is not much to show physically. There is very little, to nothing, to be seen in the center that are Segovia Jewish historical artifacts.
