So beautiful and quaint. No crowds. Old, historic, quirky, stunning. Go for a cooling paddle in the river. It is soooo nice.
Very good indeed. The town itself is a cutie and is a good idea to get lost there for a couple of hours, take a few pics of the bridge from different angnles and of course it is even better if the weather is good.Went there with gf and friends and enjoyed a nice afternoon after eating at Amadeus restaurant in the main square which was good
Quaint town with the spectacular bridge. Don't miss the walkway along the river below the bridge on either side of the river but particularly on the village side. Great photo opportunities from down there. Nice tea room just inside the city walls.
If you like small, medieval, rather unspoiled towns, here you have one.The bridge is great, but the whole surrounding is too.Good for 2 hours walking around, maybe some coffee break and then the bus to Girona maybe, just another wonderful Spanish city...
We took the 9 am Teisa bus for 15.40 euros (one way) to reach this medieval town. The Romanesque bridge with a gateway is a wonderful reminder of the town's past, We spent nearly 3 hours wondering around the narrow streets and river banks, as well as the many stalls, before enjoying grilled rabbit and Catalan sausage for lunch at a cafe next to the church square.
Besalu is so small that if you came - you just couldn't not find the bridge. It is very old, but as for me - pretty simple. But the view from the bridge is really very beautiful.
Have you ever imagined yourself a knight in shining armor or a beautiful princess worthy of that knight? This is the place that will make you feel like that kid again... An ancient intact medieval town with a magnificent bridge and entrance. Its hard not to see the ghosts around every corner - every cobble stone is begging to share its story! Ate a casual lunch in the placa - very touristy, overpriced with a fast-food feel. Wish we could have visited during a festival...
The restaurant of the same name was closed but the old bridge and the city are well worth a visit. Besalu has wonderful atmosphere and at night the main squares are very beautiful.
We were here on a small group tour at the end of September. Unfortunately it was a rainy day so our experience in this village wasn't as great as it would be on a sunny day as the bridge and cobble stoned-streets were slippery. It's hard to get lost because this village is so small. The walk around the village is enjoyable as you wander through the streets and see the little shops (they had a bakery and small clothing shops). There was also an open market in the centre just outside the Romanesque church. If you take a walk near the Jewish quarter, you can get great views of the bridge. I recommend stopping for a cafe con leche in the placa major.
No far from Costa Brava Beaches we found find a uniquely preserved medieval town Besalu with fortified bridge, narrow cobbled lanes, so many chruches, chapels etc. Especially amazing is Medieval Festival taking place every year in August - a weekend filled with medieval music, knight combats, acrobats, junggers - and of course, stalls with local delicacies. It is spread in all the medieval center and entrace fee is only 3 EUR.
If you travel Spain, near Perpignian and next to Figueres, dont forget to visit the old town -bridge Besalou. It is a wonderful town surrounding by a castle, near a river, very interesting for walking, with a good market of souvenirs ,and nice, with flowers, beautiful houses and helpful inhabitants. There is also a tour by a small train all around the village-castle.If you like the romantic old towns, you never loose the great opportunity to visit this pitourisque village, which reminds you Provence ofFrance or every town in a castle.
Beautiful bridge in the lovely town of Besalu, together with the LDL town, the cathedral a very pleasant place to spend few hours
We took lots of gorgeous pictures and again in the evening too with the lights on it. The clouds were unbelievable.
sense of history walking over this bridge to old town early morning and late in evening in balmy june
The signature of a very attractive town, the bridge is a beautiful landmark that understandably garners much attention. Somewhat medieval in appearance the bridge straddles the meandering river and provides a superb focal point prior to a bimble around Besalu itself. The town and bridge are both well worth a visit.
