"Never Open" our winter hours are Thursday -Monday 10-5 Sundays at open at 11. Every store is individually owned. As for Pappy's Trading Post we are only closed two days a week and only in the winter! I work very hard to make sure my store is up and running unless an emergency. We hope you can catch us on your next visit
We wanted something to eat, and while the one restaurant was closed, there was a store that had a hotdog stand that met our needs. There were no inside seating places where we could eat, so we sat out on the deck overlooking the river and ate...it was a balmy 38:-) The fudge store and souvenir store were nice placed to wonder through. The only public restroom was a port-a-john.I am certain that during the summer this place is hoping with things to encourage you to spend some time seeing and money buying. Kids will enjoy all the statues/models and i expect a seat on one of the swings out by the river will be nice for everyone. Not somewhere I would go out of my way to find or see, but if you are on this old back road and need a snack break or just need to get the kids out of the car to burn some energy, Pappy's will work well!
This is a great place for Sunday lunch and a browse around!! And there's ice cream in the store for desert!!
It is always fun to visit Pappy's. It is always interesting, unique and has a great view of the river.
It was so much fun seeing all the stuff that they had !! Some of the stores were closed being not in tourist season...It was nice though seeing all the things that was opened!!
There is so much to do here, you will find something for everyone. We ate dinner at the riverside restaurant, which was delicious at the atmosphere was very clean and enjoyable. Then we walked for a bit on the boardwalk alongside the river and fed the fish. There is an ice cream store, but we were too stuffed! There are several gift shops with tons of crafty and beautiful things. There is a museum, that we did not have time to go through. And there is the trading post with lots of very interestingly posed taxidermy animals, my kids got a huge kick out of them! They are all very realistic looking. I wish we had more time top spend here! Plan on at least half a day to shop, eat & browser!
We drove over from Blue Ridge for lunch after getting there it was not what we thought it would be we looked at menu on line and it looked great but after we got there the menu for lunch was limited to what you could have to eat unless you wanted to wait until after 4:00pm for the full menu don't think I'll be going back but not a total loss some of the shops were ok
Sherry and her husband are very nice people - meeting them is as nice a treat as the ice cream! We love stopping in for an ice cream and sitting out back overlooking the creek. Of course, we always have to feed the 'pet fish'. There is huge carp that hang out Spring through Fall - lots of them! If you have a child that wants to see some fish - bring them to Pappy's!
Whenever we get a hankering for an Ice Cream Cone, we head out to Pappy's. There's no place better to enjoy ice cream as you sit by the river and watch life go by. Try it sometime and let me know what you think. I promise you - you won't be disappointed!
This complex popped up out of nowhere. Our family with kids enjoyed feeding chickens and fish, buying homemade fudge and shopping around the different country stores. We grabbed a bite to eat in their restaurant. It was delicious. We skipped the museum ($5 entry).
We stopped by pappy's a couple of times while we were in the area. We saw all the buildings and thought it would be fun shopping. We were not all that impressed - but it was fun to walk through the area. We did not eat at the restaurant located on the river. We went into the museum, but did not pay the $5 to see the rest of the attraction. We came back another day because we knew there was tubing from this spot. They drove us up the road about a mile in an old van with no seats - so if you are a stickler about safety you won't like it :) The tubing was beautiful, we were the only group on the river - nice and slow water was clean and shallow. There is a mannequin hanging from a tree at the spot where you get out - a little creepy. The whole area looks like it just needs to be cleaned up and managed better. a lot of junk laying around.
My wife & I travel to Blairsville, Ga. two or three times a year and stay at Clarks' Haven in Paradise Hills Resort & Spa. Pappy's is only about a mile down the road, and we never miss going there to see what we can't live without. It's a fun place, where you can spend a while looking at all the unique items that they have there. You can also treat yourself to an ice cream cone, and feed the big family of trout out back. You might even see people tubing down the river since a starting point is next door to the Trading Post. There are several other fine shops for tourist or residents of the area. The latest addition to the Pappy's area is a great little museum, which you can probably tell by the picture is pretty funky, but a good museum. The owner is a car collector, but it goes beyond that. You can preview an area for free, but to see the remaining area there is an admission fee of $5. The shop owners/managers are all friendly, and most recognize us each time we visit. There also is a restaurant in the complex and a fenced in area of exotic chickens for a photo opportunity. Enjoy yourself, it's a fun way to spend a little time in Blairsville. Further down the road is Brasstown Bald, the highest point in Georgia at about 4,900 ft., Vogel State Park, and the beginning or the end of the famous Appalachian TrailFYI: Paradise Hills Resort recently added a winery, where they have wine tastings & sometimes have live music. It is open to the public. You might want to check it out while in the area. Call 877 745-7483 for further info.
Pappy's is my favorite way to spend a day in the Blairsville area. Start by browsing the shops (there are four or five stores with knick knacks, crafts, furniture, jams/jellies, quilts, fudge, etc.) The prices are competitive with the other general stores and shops in the area and the quality is always excellent. Then spend some time browsing the museum. I love the murals and the nostalgic items are colorful and interesting. It's not a bad way to spend $5 and an hour of your time. Follow that up with a better than average lunch at Pappy's restaurant with a beautiful view of the river from your table, then change into your swimsuits and take a relaxing tube ride down the Nottely River. The Nottely usually runs a little higher than the Chattahoochee in Helen, so you won't have to walk or get stuck as much. Finish your day with a waffle cone from the ice cream counter while sitting on Pappy's back deck, also overlooking the river. Once, about a year ago, we brought a picnic lunch with us and were eating on the deck after tubing, and the owner came out and chatted with us for a while. He said he was glad to see us there with our picnic, and that he had built the place the way he did so that people could just relax, browse and sit and enjoy the river. Great guy. Oh! and don't forget to stop by the chicken coop before you leave. My daughters love to feed the chickens. :)Negatives: I wish that all of the shops were occupied... and I seriously miss the apple dumpling stand!!
This was a great find as we just expected to find a little store. It turned out to be a little village along the river and it was amazing shopping. There is something for everyone.
My husband and I stop here every time we're in the area. There is a wonderful collection of shops with a wide variety of merchandise. rustic country decor, fancy decor, great food items, antiques, toys, home made fudge... the list goes on. Situated on the river, it's a beautiful area. The shop keepers are so friendly and helpful, they are delightful to talk to. We always end up visiting a while as well as picking up some great stuff! Can't wait to visit again!
