There are way to many incredibly beautiful spots in the Chattahoochee National Forest to start to list them here. However this is one of the most beautiful and magical places in Georgia and in the Southern Appalachians. There is a lot to do and see here and there's not a lot of wrong ways to go about exploring the area, just jump in!
Great views and beautiful wilderness. It is truly like an escape back in time. We spent several hours on the nature trails and enjoyed every minute of it.
No dislkes. How could one possibly dislike a forest?I have been to many forests all across the U.S. It is always a moving, awesome experience.
Loved the views and we took the 2 mile trail and it was awesome. The wild flowers were just coming out and the weather is cool in May. This county has more rain than most counties in the Nation. Take rain gear in the Spring.
This National Forest is a treasure and my view whenever I head to Clayton or Atlanta, I call the surrounding area home.
There is hiking, snow tubing ,horseback riding ...we loved it all...The food was also great....The resort we stayed at had a spa and indoor pool....relaxing after a long hike...
We hiked up Brasstown Bald to their wonderful visitors' center. "Bald" refers to the treeless area at the top of the mountain, the highest natural point in Georgia. On the recommendation of the shuttle driver we hiked up and rode the shuttle down, since the wooded path is fairly step. Views of 3-4 states from one spot, good dioramas on the local terrain and animal/plant life as well as the narrow gauge railways that once worked in the area. A great family and couples venue. The hiking is aided by a paved path to the top.
I just returned from a week in the mountains. It was beautiful, you will never go wrong visiting this area in the fall. It's a great place to visit anytime of the year.
The Chattahoochee National Forest is home to the southern terminus of the Applachian trail, located at Springer Mountain in Dawson County, Georgia. Amicalola Falls, over 700 feet of cascading water, is nearby. Other notable waterfalls in the forest are Anna Ruby, Desoto, Dukes Creek, Tallulah, and Toccoa, Lakes Chatuge, Burton, Rabun, Winfield Scott and Yonah teem with fish and the streams are stocked with trout from the fish hatchery at Lake Burton. Georgia's tallest peak is located in the Forest near Hiawassee. Brasstown Bald is 4,784 feet of beauty in the lower range of the Blue Ridge mountains. Dahlonega is the site of a gold rush in the 1840s. Gold from the mines there adorns the dome of the state capitol in Atlanta. Eight state parks are in the Forest, many with wonderful accomodations. The home office of the Chattahoochee National Forest is located at 1755 Cleveland Hwy in Gainesville, GA 30501
We hired Don, the son in law of Dianne Quigley, owner of Long Mountain B&B to take a group of us to the forest to see some of the waterfalls. It had rained but the forest gleamed with its beauty. The waterfalls were breath taking and we loved our memorable time there.
I live here. Find nature by traveling the forest service roads. Plenty of hiking to do and wildlife to see. The Appalachian Trail cuts one of the many paths through this wilderness.
The National Forest is massive with numerous trails and tracks. We were looking for forest trails for our Jeep, and had no problem finding fun romps. A short hike on a well maintained trail took us to a spectacular waterfall. Looks like a great place to camp and fish.
The fall views, especially, as we ride through the area in the higher elevations are wonderful, although maybe no as significant as the Pisgah Forest not too far away. This one is quite close to us, and we enjoy the opportunities. Good hiking trails available.
Peace and the great outdoors. I live up here - you can only visit. Whatever you do in the woods - somone up here will make it fun to do in the Chattahoochee National Forest. Bring you camera 'cause we still have animals, scenery, waterfalls and everything. Plus it's about 10 degrees cooler than Atlanta most of the time.
We walked and drove for miles through some of the most beautiful terrain in the southeast. Every turn in the road was another "photo op!"
