Closed. Out of business. Was a wonderful venue, picture perfect setting in the mountains, with Persimmon Creek running through the property. Wines were very special. Sad to see them go.
The winery is closed. We drove a long distance only to find out that the winery is closed. The area was beautiful, but be certain you call since there was a for sale sign on the property.
Out in the middle of nowhere Persimmon Creek rushes freely through 12 acres of vineyards surrounded by the hills and mountains of NE Georgia. A split rail fence runs across the narrow paved road that leads to the vineyard property. Wine making is currently suspended, but all afficianado's of Persimmon Creek Wines are hoping the wine production will start again soon.
We loved this place. Visiting the tasting room was like a quick visit to Italy. Alas, it is now closed. http://www.southeastvino.com/index.php/2011/10/persimmon-creek-closes-operations/
8 months pregnant, I spent 2 nights in the Sassafras Cottage with my mother and my 1 1/2 year old daughter. We found it to be a lovely getaway. Not too far from Atlanta. The cottage was beautifully decorated with amazing detail. Luxury appliances and fixtures. No expense was spared. The owner MaryAnn treated us like family. There was a homemade quiche in the refrigerator with fresh squeezed orange juice and lovely Classical music playing on the Bose wave radio. The only nit I would make is that there is zero cell phone service in the cabins. But sometimes, that's a good thing. Hope to go back soon.
We came for an wine tasting event (hosted in conjunction with Tiger Mountain Vineyards) that ended at 4:00 and we arrived at 4:05. The women sitting outside told us we had to leave because the event was over, although we were willing to pay for a regular tasting. Guess what, their tasting room doesn't close until 5. They were rude to us and wouldn't let us even use the bathroom before telling us to leave. People who came right in front of us were inside doing a tasting...
We recently spent 3 nights in the Hickory Cottage. We found it to be a perfect getaway. The cottage was beautifully decorated with amazing detail. On our arrival MaryAnn (the owner) treated us like long lost relatives. She was excited to tell us all about the vineyard and the surrounding area. We stopped at the grocery store on our way to the cottage and picked up everything we would need to cook for ourselves. Breakfast was provided and delivered to us the day before. One morning we had quiche, on another morning we had banana bread and on our last morning we had fresh fruit and muffins. The kitchen was adequately equipped. There is a refrigerator drawer a freezer drawer, and a Viking stove/oven. Even though we were on vacation I did not mind spending time in this cute kitchen. We enjoyed spending time together watching the fire and reading a good book. There is a TV but it doesn't have cable. You can use it to watch movies because it does have a DVD player but we were happy to just to read and talk. There was little to no cell service. There is a phone but you can only use it to receive long distance calls. Since we left the kids at home with Grandma we made sure they had the number to the cottage so they could call us. There is also no internet access. For us this was a little tough but it was probably a good thing. Each day we went to the Starbucks in town, got coffee and my husband would connect with his office back home. While in town we shopped and had lunch and on the other day we went to the Tallulah Falls. There were great hiking trails at Tallulah Falls and the scenery was worth the effort it took to climb down into the gorge. I was looking forward to doing a little antique shopping but found the shops to be overpriced so we came home empty handed but the hunt was still enjoyable because there was lots to see. In the end we had a great time and would go back in a heartbeat.
Our recent stay at Persimmon Creek Vineyards was the most relaxing getaway we've had in ages! The scenery was devine and you could spend hours taking in all the wonderful details of the cottage and it's surroundings. It would be impossible not to come back refreshed after a stay here. I highly recommend it.
