We played on a day that was probably too hot for us to really enjoy the game, but Cherokee Run made it more tolerable. The course is a mix of challenging holes, both in terms of layout and topography as well as holes that are shorter, straighter and less frustrating. It is a fine course for the average golfer but will give people who are new to the game a hard time. Also is a good value for the price.
I don't say that a lot. I've been meaning to play Cherokee Run for awhile, but never got to it. When my son asked me to go to a course we never tried, I decided to finally play at Cherokee Run. First to review is the inside operation. The pro shop is great, fully stocked and the staff is very friendly. Need to eat or get a drink after your round? The restaurant appears to be highly recommended and the bar is the nicest I've seen at a public course in Metro Atlanta. The starter was really friendly and had great tips to playing the course. On to the golf.. My 20 year old son works on grounds crew at an exclusive North Atlanta country club and knows turf and turf care extremely well. His griping during a round about the greens, fairways and tee boxes is usually depressing. Cherokee Run? It gets compliments! The fairways are zoysia, greens are Bermuda and the tee boxes are well taken care of. If you keep it on the fairways, you'll love the conditioning of the course. The greens were rolling a little slow, but they were consistent, no surprises. The one improvement that turf guy recommends is a better cutting pattern on the fairways. It's a tough course, but this Arnold Palmer design is a gem. This 25 handicapper is all thumbs up!
Once a month a group of us retirees meet at the club restaurant. Several months later after trying different items, all are very good. They have a great selection of sandwiches, wraps and salads. We keep coming back so that should tell you something. Prices are reasonable and the service is good as well. Next month we'll be there again.
If you are looking for a great round of challenging golf while in the Greater Atlanta Metro - look nor further. This course will allow the weekend hacker to have moments of greatness while giving a scratch golfer a run for his/her money. With picturesque settings and granite out croppings in the fairways this is a must play course if you have the time.
Haven't golfed the course yet, but spent a few hours at the driving range and enjoyed it. The staff was extremely nice... one of them actually gave me a few extra balls to hit (probably against the rules, but I thought it was really nice/generous). I will definitely go back, and next time I'll golf the course, not just the range!
Played this course this past tuesday before visiting The Masters in Augusta on Wednesday. It is a very difficult course. The greens are fast. The first 9 holes are very difficult since you can not see the greens from the the tee box. However, the back nine holes are a little better. When you play the 18 holes, they give you a nice hat and a gift box of goodies. Real nice. I would recommend this course if you are going to to visit Augusta either before or after the Masters Tournament. It is about 2 hours away from Augusta Ga.
The Sunday brunch at Cherokee Run is second to none. I went along with my extended family and it was a time to remember. Awesome food and cocktails. Egg chef for omelettes, lots and lots of all the favorite breakfast and lunch items. Scrumptious.
We've gone there for a rodeo and for a couple of gun shows. So we don't know anything about the Golf Club at all.
We had our Church golf tournament here and we all ate in the dining room. Great food. We had a buffet which was wonderful and service is great. I highly recommend this place for a large crowd. They can handle it.
WOW! My husband and I went to have brunch this past Sunday and itt was amazing! They have a spectacular chef that prepared quite a spread. The service was great and the atmosphere and view of the 18th hole was incredible. We HIGHLY recommend that you try out the Sunday brunch. I noticed that they have a pretty good looking lunch menu as well. Our server said they serve lunch daily and everyone loves it.
I came in to have a few drinks with some friends. As we were sitting at the bar, we noticed roaches crawling around the draft beer and even saw some in the women's bathroom. It was so disgusting that we paid our tab and left. It was so obvious that they had bug issues, that we didn't even bother pointing it out to the server. I would not suggest eating any food from this place until it's been fully inspected and treated!!! The atmosphere and the view from the balcony are great, but the bug problem totally ruined our experience!!! This issue needs to be handled immediately!!!!
Played the course today and while it was in good shape, the lack of an effective ranger resulted in a six hour round. The club allowed a group from Altanta to basically turn the course into a garbage dump and backed the play up to where it was not enjoyable. Will not play here again and will advise everyone I talk to to avoid unless they have time and the patience for a six or seven hour round.
Played yesterday and the place is beautiful! The new bermuda greens are great and have only been down for 10 or 12 weeks. I can't wait to play again. The fees were very reasonably priced for the for the quality of the course compared to others I have played/ Food in the clubhouse was good and reasonably priced also.
Golf course designed by Arnold Palmer and recovering well from obvious neglect. The Spring weather has not helped early season maintenance but the course is an excellent challenge. Recommend play with a buggy as quite an up and down course. Good value at $72 for a two ball including a buggy.
It's one of Rockdale Counties best places to go, especially with a large group.
