We've been to two events here and both times staff was snotty. The wedding was beautiful BUT the staff treated guests in a condescending manner. Wine was just ok. I prefer a sweet wine and no after taste and it disappointed on both of those.
It was a sad day to hear of the closing of Blackstock Winery & Vineyards in Dahlonega GA. After several freezes at blossom time they lost so many plants. Anyway it is a shame to lose any winery. The years prior to opening it's doors required lost of hard work and financial expenses.Hopefully it will be purchased and a new owner will reap the benefits. Beautiful location.
This is a small winery, so they don't have a lot of wines to choose from. You pick 8 wines (for $10) out of 10 for a tasting. Also, the initial pourer that we got gave us very small amounts of wine to taste. The view is nicer than Frogtown though with a back deck view of the mountains.
The wine was quite nice, I was a bit skeptical because we lived in San Francisco & spent a lot of time in the wine country and wasn't sure about Georgia wines; but they had some lovely choices. The wedding was beautiful & where they have their deck situated, the changing light during the reception & sunset were absolutely gorgeous. Our only complaint is that it got really cool when the sun went down and they only had three out door heaters for their huge deck and we were cold and so was a lot of the wedding party dressed in their sleeveless dresses !!! I would think for a venue that does a lot of weddings, they would have had the heaters all over the out door deck for the comfort of all. My only negative is that issue and that is certainly easy to fix ... would most definitely go back.
Besides loving their wines, we enjoyed an afternoon sitting amongst the vines and listening to the live music. Very relaxing.
This past weekend, to celebrate our anniversary my husband and I were going to spend the day sampling wines in North Georgia mountains.. This was our first stop.. when we arrived there seemed to be only two other couples, the tasting room was empty, we didnt know where to go... soon a young lady arrived and announced tastings were 10.00 for 8...and although it states on the website for this price you also get to keep your glasses, on this day they were not giving you the glass.. first bummer, as I wanted to keep for the special occasion.. suddenly four other couples arrived and she seemed truly overwhelmed.. we had to wait and wait for our next wine, just felt like I was "putting her off".. there were not crackers or anything supplied to clean the palate between white to red wines, really a bummer.... the view is one of the best, but I was not impressed with any of the wines.. luckily for blackstock, someone on staff hired two older gentleman to play harmonica and guitar out of the deck, was truly the saving grace, a glass of wine later I did at least get to hear them perform "our song" which made my day.. we left right after.. I dont think Ill be back, must work on the warm and fuzzy as this is not napa valley and the other winery's in this area have a much warmer feel, the want you to stay and sit a while...
We went on a beautiful afternoon to enjoy the music and scenery. When we tried to order a bottle of wine we were told that when they have music you can only have wine by the glass. When I asked the reason he said because they make more money that. way. So $8.00 for a glass and $21.00 for a bottle. This is a winery and you should be able to buy a bottle. We had 1 glass and went to Frogtown where the view is great and a much prettier place. They really need to change this policy. Also Frogtown has a much larger selection of wine to pick from and a good food selection.
We got there early afternoon and simply enjoyed a glass of wine sitting in rocking chairs on the deck listening to live Jazz music....what more could you want??? Oh yes and the view is the best of the wineries we visited. we opted not to do a tasting as it was crowded but they didn't mind and neither did we!
BlackStock Vineyards and Winery, located in the beautiful hills of North Georgia between Cleveland & Dahlonega GA. You come upon this winery first if driving from Cleveland to BlackStock. It just appears around the bend and the vineyards roll on forever. The sunset during the late summer and fall are spectacular. I am usually the designated driver and photographer during the winery tours with friends but when I get home I enjoy a glass "ACE" their newest Red wine. Go there just for the opening of a keg on the porch. It's a perfect place to relax. Did I mention the view!!
Love this vineyard and its casual ambiance. We've tasted the wines here several times and always take friends who are visiting from out of town.
Only winery in area open seven days a week.Pleasant hostess and wine was very good, and i am very picky!
We didn't really enjoy our time here because it was busy with two bridesmaids groups. It was packed. We waited a good 15 min to be able to start tasting then it took almost an hour to try 8 wines.
Nice small winery with good selection of wines. We especially liked the outside deck very peaceful atmosphere.
Wine was good wish we could have stayed longer. This was the 2nd or 3rd best on the wine trail
My husband and I have visited Blackstock several times when in Dahlonega, and each time we find something more to love about this winery! This past weekend we had such a great time! As soon as we arrived we were greeted by a sweet lady named Ellie and we discussed the new wine and also how big the vines were getting. I felt I had made a new friend. We of course enjoyed the wine sampling which I would recommend since there are so many great wines here that is is hard to choose. ACE is still my favorite, but I honestly don't think I have ever had a wine I didn't like here. The girls in the tasting room are young, but have very good knowledge of the wines and the grapes used to make them. If you like the wine and plan on coming back, I would join the wine club and also make sure you give them your email and join their Facebook page. There are many specials throughout the year and they are not to be missed. The live entertainment on the weekends is also great, and this weekend was not a disappointment. It wasn't a large crowd, but we all enjoyed drinking wine by the glass and listening to the two young men sing and play different instruments. We were able to bring crackers and cheese up to the deck too so we stayed all day and just relaxed, which they welcome you to do and seem to enjoy that we were there. We were disappointed that David was not there to let him know that after a few short years, he has really built a winery that he can be proud of! If you are only going to visit one or two wineries while in Dahlonega, make sure this is the first one you visit since you may not need to go to any other after this!! Have fun!!!
