Quaint, throwback to the old days! Love the movies and the live theater as well. It's just off the square and is a local icon.
This old theater is definitely an antique! It's really fun to see a play or a movie. It's just like walking back in time. Great rainy day standby!
The Holly shows mostly plays and older movies. We saw Steel Magnolias and it was wonderful. It's just a small, older, one screen/stage little movie theater. Just check out what's playing when you're in town. You'll have a good time.
Any event, or play held at the infamous Holly Theatre has been a terrific event. It is one of the landmarks and traditions of the area and without it, the face of the town would surely change. Koodos Dahlonega!
I have been several times with my young god daughter to see the child plays. They are always very entertaining and her eyes light up seeing them on the stage, much better than just putting in a DVD. These shows happen often and we go as much as we can. I also have seen some adult plays which were also great and I saw a comedian James Gregory there. Great show, great staff, great purpose.
The Holly has it all: comedies, musicals, educational programs, and drama. My wife and I have attended numerous events over the past decade. Rarely have we been disappointed. We especially enjoy the relaxed informal atmosphere at all times and all events. The Holly reminds me of the small town theaters of the 40s. (When life seemed a lot simpler.)
If you like a touch if history combined with some great stage acting then you should go to this theater. While it dosnt have a wide selection of food or drink its I good place to go for a night out
Done of the best dhows I have seen here. I love that when you walk in you feel just how old the place really is and how they have kept it the same. I have acted on the stage and made many friends here. Pago see a show here and support the arts.
They are currently running "Spamalot", which is a remake of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Great show, they kept the same sequence of events, but tweaked them enough to make it their own. If you need a good laugh, it's the musical to see!
I've only been once to The Mouse Trap, but I was amazed by the local talent. Everyone spoke in British accents, and that's hard to do when you live in Georgia. LOL I was visiting the area, but if I lived there I would definitely attend more often.
Granted I've not seen every play performed at the Holly but of the ones I have seen I have never seen a bad one. It amazes me the caliber of talent both on stage and off that donate many hours of hard work so others can enjoy reasonably priced live theater. I have just left another fantastic performance .... Smoke On The Mountain. If you happen to be visiting the Dahlonega area during a time when a play is happening give yourself a treat and visit the Holly.
We went to see Smoke on the Mountain at the Holly. For it to be a kid friendly show, the staff sure wasn't kid friendly. They kicked my brother in law and nephew out because they had "several" complaints about my nephew being too loud. He was laughing. He was not loud at all. He was laughing when everyone else. Then at the end they were taking up donations for the building fund. I already paid for a ticket, why should I give them more money? I would not recommend you going to the Holly!
My first introduction to The Holly Theater (location only) was a mandatory viewing of the original Manchurian Candidate in my American History undergrad class at North Georgia College. After that, I had attended several movie showings and live theatre. What a fantastic place! I even had a dinner-and-a-show many moons ago with food catered by the cafe next door. If the Holly is performing something that piques your interest.........GO!
I was in the Holly for my first ever visit there this past weekend. My family and I saw Riders in the Sky. It is a small theater with probably no bad seats. It has a small lobby that can get crowded during intermission (but then don't they all?) They have an ambitious schedule done by volunteers. I would suggest a visit if you are in the area and they are showing something you might like.
Just an incredible live theater experience. There not many places in the US left where you can have front row seats for an affordable price to experience some of the best live theater performers in the area! Such a value for the experience that will stay with you forever!
