The park is in the middle of town; very convenient. Lots of playground apparatus. Covered picnic tables. Not much parking.The main problem was lack of supervision by the parents.

We love to take our motorhome here to "camp". Very well maintained park with outstanding employees. You can enjoy rocking and relaxing on the awesome, shaded office front porch, swimming and enjoying the white sand beach, fishing, paddle boats, bike riding (bring yours) and walking the trails.Safe, well lighted park with camping, 5-6 motel style rooms on the lake to rent and cookout pavilions abound.Park manager, a ranger and a police officer live on site in this gated park. Beachfront grill is seasonal and a nice reminder of days gone by (for us older visitors).Make reservations to camp (arrive early to pick the best available site), or just visit for the day. Camp hosts are wonderful and helpful, greeting you on arrival and there if you need them.Highly recommended...Highly recommended..

Although the park is nice, the clerical staff seemed annoyed when she had to change our fee when we told her we are seniors. But the worst part was when we were assigned to only take a small site (26' or less). We have a 25' and because the access to those are very tight and we couldn't find one that we could get into, we asked the manager if we could get a larger one. Mind you, it was a Monday and we were the ONLY ones in the park, and we were only there for one night, but she said NO!. "The rules are the rules". We finally found one, but we had to pull in another one first to back in. If someone was in the other one, we wouldn't have been able to fit. Now we are not novice campers. We have traveled the country for years. This is the first time in hundreds of campgrounds that we came across such unaccommodating staff. We won't be going back there.

We were in Carrollton for a soccer tourney and stayed at the park in our travel trailer. The host were very kind and helped us back our trailer in. We were in a "red" site, which is their smaller site, however, it was plenty big for our 30ft trailer. Even though the rv area had steep hills all the sites were very level with gravel, picnic table, and fire pit with grate. Gates close... yes, there really are gates, they close at 10pm. The hosts said they listen for late arrivals and will attempt to greet them and let them in. Once you are checked-in, a security code is provided so you can go in/out of the gates. The bathrooms are okay. A person cleans them very well everyday, they are just dated. As for the park... it is amazing! The lake is beautiful. We went to the sandy beach everyday! They have paddle boats. Lots of folks fishing. There is even a concession stand. There are grounds people manicuring the park every morning. It was a holiday weekend when we went, but they have 5 or 6 pavilions and those were ALL rented out with family reunions and such. But even with all those extra folks there was plenty of room down at the lake. If you ever find the need to be in the Carrollton, GA area this is a great place to stay! Also, very close to Carrollton.

John Tanner State Park is a quiet little park just inside the Georgia / Alabama state line. It is about an hour from Atlanta and the Atlanta attractions but with all this park has to offer, you may not bother leaving the park. Camping sites are designed to accommodate tents or campers. Sites have water and electric hook up. Bath houses are clean and close to camping. With your camping fee, you get access to the clean sandy beach on the edge of the lake, two playgrounds and numerous picnic sites. The guest services building has free WiFi, charcoal and cold drinks. There is a well maintained put put golf course that is inexpensive as well as paddle boats for rent. Group camping and a small lodge is available. My only word of caution is to put all food inside your vehicle unless you are looking at it or eating it. The squirrels will chew through a plastic container to get inside (experience). Great park at a great price. The kids are already saying, "...and next year, when we come back...."
