I went to another GWTW museum in Georgia and was not impressed one bit. But this one was clean, well displayed, tons of costumes from the movie and props. It also had a lot of pictures from the time period and explained how the Civil War was and was not depicted correctly in the movie. I loved it!

On my return from FL to TN I saw a billboard for "Road to Tara" museum. I'm a Gone with the Wind fan so I took a slight detour. The museum is in the "Old Town" part of Jonesboro in what looks to be an old railroad depot. The lady at the desk welcomed us and was really friendly and knowledgeable. Admission is $7 per person so not overly priced like most museums. The museum is small(ish) but has many beautiful replicas, original movie bill, and autographed pictures. There are personal items and history of Margaret Mitchell. Also a detailing of the war and the soldiers that lead the conflicts.

Wow. I was really impressed by how much there was to see here. Loved everything about it from the information on Margaret Mitchell, to the wonderful details of the filming and special displays of the characters. The staff was so FRIENDLY. Unfortunately, a winter storm was coming, and we had to cut our visit short. (Had planned on going to Atlanta to see Margaret Mitchell's home and Oakwood Cemetery so was grateful I came to this charming museum.) Still, I was so happy we went out of our way to come here. This is a MUST if you are in this area especially if you are a GWTW fan as I am.

Hi Ken,We really enjoy it when our local residents come by to tour the museum and take one of the bus tours. We're so glad you enjoyed it and learned a lot. To make our visitors comfortable, we limit the bus tour to about an hour, which is based on previous visitor input as a good amount of time to be on the bus. The museum offers discounts to Stately Oaks Plantation and Arts Clayton Gallery, so those interested can go back for a more in depth visit. We would love to have other locations that are open regularly to visitors as well one day. There are two different tours per day (sometimes there are more based on seasonal demand), the Southern Belles & Whistles Tour and the Gone With the Wind Tour. We do require reservations so as to prevent overbooking, which, unfortunately did not happen in your case. We apologize for the inconvenience you encountered during the tour and we appreciate your positive and honest feedback.Since you're local, we hope you will come back to visit us soon.

Thank you for the wonderful comments about our museum and staff. It's quite a treat that you visited us all the way from London. If you visit the area again, we'd love for you to come back to our museum.

This museum is in a small old railroad station in the town where Margaret Mitchell wrote Gone with the wind. Although small, it held quite a few displays and was interesting to read some of the unknown facts about the actors and the making of the film. Loved looking at the costumes. Learned quite a bit about the life of Margaret Mitchell. Quaint little town that you can tour on a small bus that leaves from the Road to Tara Museum. Well worth the stop if you are a fan of this movie.
