The platform is only a few feet from the tracks and since the train does not slow as it travels by, it is extremely loud. So if you stop by with young children you may want to cover their ears. The building is new and nice. You can have a meal at one of the two picnic tables or just sit back and enjoy the sights. The town itself has a nice aura about it. It is located just a few miles from Interstate 75 and offers great scenery for background in pictures should you decide to stop off and visit. Nearby is Horsetown which sells all kinds of western clothing and boots along with equestrian supplies up and including saddles. You also have Tanger Outlet Mall and Noah’s Ark animal rehabilitation center. So if in fact you are looking to take a short break from traveling Interstate 75, Locust Grove is worth a stop!
The city should be commended for building such a nice train viewing platform. The platform has a scanner, picnic tables, benches, lights, and electrical outlets. Parking can be limited as the lot is usually taken up by people patronizing local businesses. Train traffic varies but 25-30 per day is probably a good average. Foreign power is common and the motive power variety is good. Tanger Outlet Mall is nearby which gives the family something to do while you take in a day of trainwatching. If you are in the Atlanta area, enjoy an afternoon at the Locust Grove platform.
