I do a little fishing there but for the most part the firing range is the real attraction there for me they're really nice. I use them a lot and enjoy my time spent there. The Atlanta Astronomy Club meets there on a regular basis. It's the only place I know of without a lot of light pollution within 200 miles of Atlanta. It's a fantastic spot for watching the meteor showers and other things of interest in the night sky there are several places where the sky is viewable from horizon to horizon. There are hiking trails a small camping area several ponds & lakes some are stocked and restricted to small children. There's a really nice visitors center with many artifacts on display. there are restroom facilities scattered throughout the wildlife center. The Charlie Elliot wildlife Center is a fantastic place for families to spend some time in the great outdoors with their children. the camping area is pretty nice, but without water and sewer or electricity for RVs, but super nice for children of all ages with tents
Hunting fishing and a free outdoor gun range. I like to go shot down here because there is normally nobody here messing around. Everybody here are cautious.
Located in Jasper County, this facility is a great place for banquets, events and day hikes. We've enjoyed several lovely weekend days wandering the trails and viewing the exhibits in the visitor's center. It's worth a visit -- or two.
It is a short drive from Atlanta, and it really does take you to nature. Nice rooms...no television and limited wifi, but if you are looking to fish, relax, or hike, then leave the urban jungle behind you. The cafe has excellent food.
Hiking, fishing, canoeing, no wake boating, hunting, camping and even a lodge for the city slickers. There are over 5 trails, perhaps a total of 16 miles - loops and spurs. Some of the trails have rock cropping and some have stream or lake water features and views. Primitive tent camping is available for $6.50 and a lodge room runs about $55 (no TV or phone but has internet). This place is a diamond in the rough, and I hope it stays that way. I've been there during spring break and in early August and never had to deal with a crowd. Within 5 miles there a fine Barbeque. The main entrance is appx. 8 miles south of I-26 off SR 11. There is a 9-5 nature center/exhibit. Leave nothing behind but your footprints and enjoy the great Georgia outdoors.
With over 20 ponds to fish in if the opportunity is endless. If fish not biting in one pond or full just go to another
This place is great, the rooms are clean, the meeting facilities are new. Wonderful friendly staff. But the best part is the atmosphere, its so relaxing, no wifi, no phone recpt, no problem! A real get-a-way.
If you love the outdoors you'll love visiting Charlie Elliot. Wether you are into bird-watching, fishing, hunting, hiking, target shooting, or just enjoying nature this place is worth the visit. There is also a small nature- museum and visitors center which tells all about the wildlife preserve and a nature center which offers classes.
Used to go here when it was owned privately, it is still a great place. Can go fishing without someone right next to you, like the privacy it offers to get away from people a bit.
What you can do at Charlie Elliot:Hunt (in season)Fish sever different lakes/pondsLearn at the main center-----tailored to kids and adults alike.Shoot---they have three shooting ranges. One for hand guns and rifles; one for rifles (because of distance, and one for shotguns.Purchasing a WMA pass (available at Wal Mart for $19) lets you do all of the above. But if a certain fish or game type requires a licence to harvest, then you will be required to purchase that as well.Good clean fun for the whole family.
