We took the trolley tour of significant historical sites in Milledgeville. Joe, our tour guide was absolutely excellent. He knew the history of all the sites, as well as many of the historically significant buildings that we passed, and was able to answer all of our questions. He had a pleasant speaking voice and was easy to listen to. Milly, the trolley, is relatively new and is a delight to ride in -- very clean, very quiet, with a beautifully appointed interior. We toured the Old Capital Building and St Stephens Episcopal Church and drove by a number of other important sites, including the Old Governor's Mansion. If you go to Milledgeville, which I highly recommend, be sure to take the tour (Friday's is Joe's day to be the guide).
This historic trolley is great fun and very interesting. The tour guide we had was so knowledgeable and we got off the trolley at many stops to tour inside several historic buildings. If you have time for nothing else, make sure to do this tour when in Milledgeville. Get tickets at the visitor's center in downtown Milledgeville.
We had a wonderful time. So much history in Milledgeville, GA. Our guide was a professor at the college and was very knowledgeable. It is definitely a must do if in town.
Milledgeville is a hidden gem with an abundance of history. It was the capital of Georgia from the early 1800's through the Civil War and many of the government buildings and homes from the period are still intact. The trolley tour takes you on a 2 hour guided trip throughout the historic district, visiting many of these places. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and personable and we all had a wonderful time. I highly recommend a visit to Milledgeville and a ride on the Trolley!
