general coffee state park

My husband and I took out baby out for an afternoon of walking around at the state park and we were surprised at how nice the trails were. Everything in South Georgia is pretty flat but the trails were wide, there weren't a lot of roots or trunks in the trails and there was some good scenery with swampy areas and a large magnolia tree. The state park isn't huge so you can cover a good bit in a short time. There is also a heritage farm area, playgrounds, and some ponds that would be good for kiddos. Overall it was a pleasant park to enjoy and we will probably go back.

I visited this state park briefly while in Douglas, GA for a business trip. This is a small but pretty state park that is very well kept and clean. There is a neat "heritage farm" with horses and other animals and there is lots of wildlife (birds, squirrels, etc.) throughout the park and campground area. The campground area is somewhat small but scenic and has electric and water hookups and several "pull through" camping spots.

We were thoroughly pleased with the customer service, ranger knowledge, and numerous activities this park provided. We camped for two nights, geocached, and went on the First Day Birding Hike with Rangers John and Wade and had an absolutely amazing time! We will be back for years to come!

Made reservations without knowing much about park except it was 130 miles from home and we had 5 days/4 nights to camp!!! We were so thrilled with this park. It reminded us of FDR State Park near Pine Mountain when you drive through. There's a small replica of a Georgia Farm complete with farm animals...chickens, turkeys, turtles, sheep, goats, ducks, pigs, mules and a horse. You can feed them with approved food. The goats are hilarious. The female pig will scream at male over food and will scare you to death if not prepared for noise of her scream. Camping sites are in 2 sections. Section 1 is a little rough with uneven areas but still pretty and woodsy. We stayed in section 2, site #41. THE BEST site in the park. Front of travel trailer points out to woods and the back you can see rest of section. Very private. Gopher turtle habitats are everywhere in the woods. Did not see many birds. Park was quiet even though there was a family reunion going on and a large group of tenters. Park rangers were friendly, especially Jackie, with whom we talked with at the office. Nice shop inside and wood is good and dry for campfires. They also allow you get wood from the grounds to use for fires. There is plenty of wood to pick up. Only a few rangers drove through the park and camp host seemed non-existent. We did not see host but twice during our 4 night stay. We are used to monitoring by cart or truck several times during the day and evening. There was one campsite some rude tenters left lots of beer bottles next to tree and it took 2 days for clean up. Douglas is 8 miles away with a Harvey's grocery, CVS, hospital, etc. Some antique shops. Lots of trails in the park for hiking or biking. We drove to the 4 cabins which are at another entrance to park and they are very secluded and look really nice. There are 2 cabins in the main park, one being Burham which is lovely. We will go to this park many times I'm sure. The animals were a big pull for us but the beauty of the park and lake are outstanding. As usual, Georgia State Parks are our favorites. Also little to no service for AT&T cell phones. There is 4G and a WiFi signal at front of park.

As we squeeze through the entry gate in our 37 foot class A, I second guessed my park choice. Loop one had gravel, low limbed roads and uneven, large, pull through sites. The restroom was well maintained but very dated. This is the loop that we stayed in. Loop two had paved roads and had no open sites. The campground host was very helpful and nice. The farm was free and bursting with potential. It was obviously great in its past prime. It had a few animals, signs in need of cleaning and updating, the cabin areas were dirty with old artifacts and limited hours due to theft and vandalism.Hiking trails were narrow, poorly marked at the head, and had several trees that were laying in the path. Overall, this park was not up to the typical Georgia State Park standard I am used to. Not a lot to do in the area. TIP: if you have a larger Motorhome or fifth wheel you may want to consider a different park.

My family spent this past weekend at the park. We rented the Burnham Cottage (3 bedrooms-two with one fullsize bed and one with two fullsize beds-and 3 baths-sleeps 8) and The Hawk's Nest (one bedroom-two fullsize beds, one bath, with a private loft-two twin beds-sleeps 6). These two fit our family of 11 just right, and they are almost back-to-back, with a privacy fence between them. The yard had plenty of room for us to have a whiffle ball game in the front yard. Most of the family brought their bikes with them but me and Grandpa didn't so we rented a tandem bike (About $15 for four hours) at the front gate office. Good idea because we mainly rode the paved roads in the park which turned out to be rather hilly on our side of the park. So I had help going up those hills! There is a connecting boardwalk to the other side of the park which was closed this weekend for repairs. We later drove to the other side (you have to go back to the highway and go to the next entrance) where the roads were much more level. This side also has four 2-bedroom cottages to rent and also a large group cottage. There is an old farmplace setting with farm animals to pet. It was a little muddy due to all the rain the previous week. There is a lake that you can fish in, or rent a canoe or paddleboat. We didn't get to that this time. There are many places in the park to picnic. The weather was nice, although a little buggy in the evenings.There were grills at each cottage and also a fire pit that we used for smores.The staff we dealt with were all very nice. The store at the front gate was a little understocked maybe due to the fact that the summer season hasn't started yet.Friends of ours went here about a month ago with their camper and enjoyed the campgounds as well.We would recommend for a nice weekend with your family.

My family and I just camped here for the weekend. We had a great time. The campground was clean and well maintained. The sites are pull through and easy to access. It was quiet and peaceful. All of the staff were very helpful and friendly. We especially liked the farm. There were interesting displays of farm life in Georgia's past. The farm animals were great. You could pet or feed most of the animals (horses, donkeys, goats, sheep, etc.) My eight year old had a great time with the animals. There is also a nice lake where you can fish or rent paddleboats or canoes. It was a nice Saturday in February so there were lots of people taking advantage of the lake. It was a great way to spend a Saturday. There is a store there as well with a pretty good selection of items. We didn't use them, but there appeared to be some very nice shelters that you could rent for events. We would definitely camp here again.

Let me start by saying we were there on Memorial Day weekend in unusually cool weather (no heat, no mosquitos), and loved this park. We had three girls 7-10 that LOVE the animal farm. Camp rangers hosted fishing, taught us how to spin wool from their sheep, and gave farm/feeding tours. We even got to see them take Samson the Billy Goat to his own private island for the summer. The tent camping and bathrooms were good. They also hosted everyone for chili that the rangers made themselves. The hiking trails were just ok. The can rent boats for the lake and there are lots of history items around the farm.

Great park, nice layout, clean, well kept. Staff is awesome, many things to do and see. Memorial Day 2012

Wonderful place to camp or just visit for the day. Took the family and had a ball. All of the staff were very hospitable and welcoming throughout the stay. Will definitely be our famly's new quick get- away.

I have a habit of checking out locations before rolling in with an RV. We drove to this park yesterday as a day trip to see what it has to offer. The Heritage Farm is worth the trip alone if you grew up on a farm in the rural South. It will bring back a lot of memories. The grounds were pretty and fairly well kept (if only people would put their empty water bottles and drink cans in the trash and not just throw them down.) We checked out the campgrounds. Good open pull through spots on campground 2. Campground 1 was not open. Convenient showers and laundry. We will be going back to spend a few days. Say Hello to Santa Claus (Bob) the campground host when you are there.

This is a very nice park in a quiet area but, it is not to far from shopping and restaurants. Watch out for the low sites .. We found a nice quiet spot and it flooded out when it rained. Very family oriented...

We lived on property bordering the park for 23 years. Our children grew up visiting and participating in park events. The pioneer farm has always been a favorite. The animals love visitors and snacks.Children are allowed and encuraged to fish the lake. There are ample shelters and facilities for private events and celebrations. Coffee State Park is ideal for everthing from weddings to rustic camping.

We stayed here with several other campers in February and had a great time. The campground itself is kind of small, dirt roads, dirt sites, with some trees and vegetation around sites but mostly open. The bath house was clean. No cable or WIFI and no over the air TV channels. The park had several activities going on in the pioneer village but we did not participate. Small lake with catch and release fishing. Golf carts allowed with a $5.00 park pass.

i been going here since i was littler than a grasshopper,this park has all the settings of the ol homestead and takes me back in time.its the best when the leaves turn with all the colors ,the cool weather in the mornings on the pond and the walks .its the best i take our kids here just for this and they love it too just like i did when i was their ages. especially during ol fashioned days where they have all kinds of attractions that take you back.
