Cute, clean park with nice facilities. Fall colors were amazing and the lake is beautiful. Excellent playgrounds. Camped for three nights over a long weekend, so the campground was busy. Clientele, was, how shall I saw this nicely... pretty redneck-y. But then again, one should probably expect that from a non-touristy-area campground basically in the middle of nowhere. We moved sites (from 21 - which, as SteveinGA said, really is not good - to 26) after our first night. 27 is the best site, but 26 is nice too, given the large open area behind the site that is near the playground and has direct access/view of the lake. On 26 (and 25) the fire pit is in the lower area behind the site, so being down there with the nice view and letting the kids run free made the site worth it. Not much room on the actual sites, outside your camper door. We had enough level ground to put out our awning, but that was pretty much it as far as a "level" area. Most sites do have wooden decks that have the picnic tables on them. If anyone in your group has mobility issues, most sites will be a problem for them. A word to the wise, sites are definitely NOT level (bring ALL of your leveling blocks) and the road in is very curvy. It rained a good bit while we were there, so with the wet road, a couple of campers slid some coming in. If this campground was somewhere else and the sites were level, it would definitely be a five.
Salacoa Creek is a county park and $18 per night including water and electric. Set on a lake (123 acres) it is in a nice area. The problem is the sites are very close together with little privacy. Restrooms were clean. Park was kept clean. But the closeness of the sites leads me to give them just an average rating. There is a nice swimming beach (open noon until 7pm) and kayak/canoe rentals. Good fishing here too I understand. We were on site 21. Not great. If you can get site 27 I would recommend it since the view looked nice and it seemed a bit more private. You can make reservations online.
This place is stunning. A gorgeous park that merits more visitors than it normally gets. However, don't plan on visiting during the colder months...for some reason, they don't like to open in fall or winter.
The lake is very nice and so peacefull... A great place to take the family for a picnic...It's a beautiful place to visit in the fall because the trees here are so vivid with all of the colors of the season. It's also a great place for a family reunion or a cookout.
We recently went and spent a long weekend at Salacoa Creek Park in Ranger, Georgia. This was the first time e had ever camped at this particular park, and I must say for what I wanted - it was awesome. The park caretaker is top notch, and the facilities are good. There are many pros that I could name that far outweigh the negative. The only thing I see the county park officials could do different with this park is to update the bath house and restrooms in the campground. They are in need of major updating and cleaning - shower etc.. They were not necessarily nasty, but the bathing facility is well used and tired. Also, it would be nice if the park would sell Firewood like many of the state parks are now doing. Firewood in nature is hard to find around this particular park. Fort Mountain State Park has a good firewood selling program this park could use as a model. Finally it would be good if the park could get more staff and/or volunteers to help do chores and keep the park clean. The local lake is in need of some litter pick-up TLC on the banks and outer edges. I did pick up while I was there, but it needs a good crew to keep the park beautiful. Overall the park is A+ in my book, and I will be bringing the family back ASAP.
