center town gallery

My sister and I spent a morning in Stone Mountain Village. We stopped in to visit the artisans at this gallery. All the artists were very friendly and eager to show you their art work. I ended up buying a fused glass necklace from Fawn. It's a lovely little area to shop in, easily walkable and everyone is so friendly. However, it appears that the village has come upon hard times, as about 2/3 of the shops are empty or for rent. We had lunch in the village and got sandwiches from another shop so we could take them to the laser show at Stone Mountain that night. All in all, a very lovely way to spend a morning.

If you are going to see Stone Mountain, a great side trip is to Stone Mountain Village. This is the small Mayberry-ish walking town just outside Stone Mountain Park. Our favorite shop here was Center Town Gallery. It was packed with beautiful art and glass works. The town has several restaurants (see The Sweet Potato Café), a bakery and many terrific shops for art and antiques. Worth at least an afternoon!
