Love oak trees, make sure you visit the Big Oak in Thomasville! What a massive beauty! Walk under the magnificent limbs and imagine everything this tree has seen during it's life!

This is Some Tree - worth seeing. We were driving by and I was stunned at the size of this amazing oak.

It is always a pleasure to drive by the magnificent Big Oak on the corner of Monroe and Crawford Streets. It is a huge Live Oak Tree with a small park and gazebo.

This is a great Oak tree....huge, and massive right in the middle of town. I loved walking around it and imaging all the history it's seen and bread its smelled (Flowers Bakery right down the road.)

You have to be someone who appreciates nature to appreciate the majesty of this tree. It is just beautiful. Simple as that.

This is an amazing tree. But if you think or have been told that this tree has a bad past then what you think or have been told is wrong. From 1906 until the 1960's this property was owned by Mr and Mrs John Albert Chastain. The Chastains raised their family in a home under this tree. Mr Chastain's mother remembers when this tree was in a pond. No one was ever hung under this tree. No one was hung in a tree that was in a pond. No doubt that many people have been hung under oak trees, but not this one. The city of Thomasville bought this property and preserved it as history in the 1960s.

We visited the big oak on a Saturday morning. It is huge and my kids loved trying to get our whole family around the trunk in a giant "hug". We called the phone number to have our picture taken, and when we looked up the pic online found out it is just a free service that is available to print for free. Great deal! Just wish there was a way to share on Facebook. Great old live oak!

The oak itself, as a natural landmark, is impressive, but I've heard Black residents of Thomasville see it as a place where their ancestors were unfairly persecuted (read: hanged). I can't enjoy it for that reason.

Easy to find; glorious to see. Take a lunch and enjoy the shade and sense of times past. Then walk about the town and view ante-bellum and victorian era and craftsman style homes. Lots of little cafes.

Hard to believe a tree this old (planted in 1685) and this large, trunk circumference over 26 feet. It is beautiful and you can have your picture taken at the tree by a Big Oak Cam, thanks to CNS Internet.

Its a tree, an old one. I have seen many old trees all over the nation, and this is one of them (some older and a bunch younger) .The oak occupys a corner lot and it is the only thing besides houses around it. I know exciting! BUT wait there is nothing around it, no real park (a patch of grass), not even a proper place to view of sit under its canopy and ogle its size. SO, if your in Thomasville drive by the tree and wave high as you drive home, just don't drive away from downtown (north?) like 3 blocks, the neighborhood can be dangerous in that direction, even during the day.

To some it might be just a tree, but to see this magnificent peace of nature, is worth slowing the car down and snapping a few pictures.

i would not travel out of my way for this, however, if you are passing through, this is a def must see. not much going on around here, but this is a good spot for pictures

I think this is a nice, educational stop for kids and adults. Why not stop a this quaint old fashioned landmark from yesteryear for 15 minutes and relax under the shade on a quiet street.
