This is a free and historically significant site. There isn't much to "do" but it was cool to see the church at the center of so much civil rights history.
We were in Atlanta for a family reunion and we visited the Ebenezer church and walking into the church you can hear Dr Kings speaking and it just gave you chills to hear his voice echoling through the church
Want to not just learn about Dr King, but also feel Dr King? Go to the church where his Father and Grandfather were ministers and he was able to preach as well, we're this amazing mans funeral was a nd sit in the pews and envision what it was like in the 60's!
From the moment I entered I could feel the spirit of MLK and others who made this holy place historical. If you sit in a pew for a short while you can almost hear the swishing of a fan, the slight shuffle of feet and muffled movement. I felt like I was on hallowed ground.
Stopping by to visit the historical Ebenezer Baptist Church is a must see for any history buff. The history of the church and the amazing people who not only presided over the congregation, but those in the congregation are well worth the visit. The tour guides are excellent!Once you've had a chance to visit "Old" Ebenezer, take a few minutes to visit the new Ebenezer Baptist Church, located just across the street.
There are no words for the power of this place. The church is humble enough, but the chapel with its stained-glass circular window depicting Jesus in prayer and the glowing cross are anything but ordinary. I was fortunate enough to enter the chapel and hear a recording of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr speaking to his congregation. While seated in a pew, listening to his inspiring voice, I refused to look at the pulpit and tried to pretend I was back in time and that he was really standing there. This is a remarkable landmark. Don't miss it.
Went last weekend and we loved the place. It was priceless to learn everything we did about MLK Jr. We had the honor to listen the "I have a Dream" speech by a great man who volunteers his services. This is a must to visit in ATL
Wow, what can you say? This is an institution as it is the church that began the speaking and teachings of Dr. King. A must-see on any Atlanta trip. And don't miss the King Historic Site, right next door, and then his birthplace, only 1 more block away.
a great place to sit and reflect the life of Martin Luther King Jr. Part of the whole of the Martin Luther King museum
This church is beautifully preserved. Visitors are able to view a short video and then enter this inspiring church. You can envision Dr. King standing at the pulpit and even sit in the pews and say a quick prayer of thanks. There is a small museum set up on the top floor of the church. This is a piece of history worth revisiting time and time again.
You have to experience it yourself ! Sit down and listen to Dr.King preach!!!!! I love taking out of town family here and seeing their reaction....
We felt honored to visit Ebenezer Baptist Church and to participate in their Sunday worship. They were extraordinarily welcoming and made clear through their worship that they continue to live the of Martin Luther King Jr.'s vision of "Beloved Community." We would highly recommend you visit during Sunday worship.
The Ebenezer Baptist Church is historic and spiritual and inspirational ... We went to a Sunday morning service and were totally inspired by the pastor and community members. We learned a lot and would go back again all the time if we lived in Atlanta!
Getting under the skin of a town and seeing the places that contributed to its history is one of the things that appeals to me when travelling. And in a town synonymous with the late, great MLK Jr, it's a must to see the church in which he worshpped, was ordained and preached as a minister. It's a simple church - nothing particularly flashy - but still active for its congregation. It was empty the day I visited, not surprising for a weekday but well kept and brought thoughts of what else might have been had MLK lived on. The National Historic Site across the street gets more attention but a visit there would be incomplete without stepping in here.
You can go inside sanctuary and also see basement/fellowship hall. Some interesting facts related to MLK I didn't know (like his mother was killed there). All contained within 3 blocks that National Park Service bought in neighborhood. Free parking at visitor center across the street.
