Located near the river we geocached our way in and met very friendly staff that recommended a few things for us to do, including a few more close by geocaches. Being Sunday though several places were not open/able to be seen. Building is beautiful & cool (which is great in an Albany summer). Nextdoor we cooled off in the fountains and followed a few recommendations.
I attended the Bobby Deen cookbook signing and found the staff to be helpful and professional. The building was very old but you would never know on the inside or outside-I think it has been preserved by the historical society. Cute little gift shop!
We were visiting the Americus area and made a spur of the moment decision to visit Albany. My son is a fan of the movie Courageous and when he saw a sign for Albany asked if we could go! Thus, I did not have a lot of time to research the area so I planned to stop at the visitor center and am so glad we did. There is actually quite a bit to do in Albany and the region that is not listed here on TA. The ladies working were very helpful and were kind enough to let us in a little early in order to use the restroom. When I told them what brought us to Albany they actually had a list of Sherwood Pictures filming sites so we had fun later looking for those. The building itself is beautiful and historic and out the back door is a small recreation of a bridge built by the famous Horace King. The visitor center is located along the river and riverwalk area. In addition to the Ray Charles Plaza down the street, there is a fabulous playground that my kids enjoyed with plenty of seating areas around it. This is also within walking distance of the Riverquarium. Downtown Albany is lovely and the visitor center is definitely worth a stop.
