The water was cold however it was January but it was crystal clear..and there was ice on some of the water....but I loved sitting downtown watching it flow by..
We have spent plenty of days on the Chattahoochee River. My kids love being in the water and the river offers so much for us to do. You can whitewater raft, tube, kayak, fish, so many things, we never get bored. The Chattahoochee boasts beautiful trout and Helen has a tournament every year. I would strongly encourage anyone who loves the water to spend a day on the Chatthoochee River, make memories!
It runs swiftly then slowly. It is narrow so one is shaded by mature trees. Very very cold water. You can embark fro the center of Helen. Afterwards get a sausage and a beer nearby
I wish it could stay as clean and clear all the way through Atlanta.Riverfront hotels are fun to throw a ball into the water for your dog while you sit in comfort on your patio out of the rain!
What can I say as the beauty of the river speaks for itself. There are many hotels, restaurants and bars with a view of the river. Also, great entertainment by watching the tubers.
Great river to cool off in..if you want to get the blood flowing just wade the river..the hooch will give old bones new life and the young ones a thrill..be sure to explore the upper hooch's many attractions and the natural wonders of the North Helen Mountains.
We stayed in a hotel tight on the river. It was so peaceful sitting on a swing watching the people float by on tubes.
The River curves around town in a S shape that the town designed there store restaurants and Fudge Factories around.
We rafted down the hooch 3 times The water was low, but it was still an awesome trip! Wished there were a few more swings close to the hooch in the "hotel" section, it would have been nice to sit on a swing and watch other tubers go down the hooch.
Ole Allen Jackson wrote a song about way down yonder on the Chattahoochee River. What he failed to tell you was about Tubing way up the Chattahoochee River in Helen Ga. This beautiful German town is a great vacation spot. Yes I've done about everything there but, tubing with hundreds of people at one time & your kids has got to be one of the best cheapest thrills you'll find there. You can take a short ride or the best long ride on a very hot day & have a blast. You don't want to do this if there's a drout no more than you do if there's been way to much rain. For a few bucks you park where your going to get out & ride a bus full of people where they drop you off in the river. One time I was Tubing with my wife & 2 kids when I came across this man trout fishing in about 2ft of water. People are everywhere. I said to him I bet your not catching nothing with all these people tubing. He reached down and raised a stringer full of trout. I couldn't believe it but, it's true. Having fun with your kids & laughing at others falling over in the cold water has got to be the best Cold Water Challenge you'll ever take. Fun, Fun, Fun...!!!
Picturesque small river. Great river for tubing and fishing. Winds through downtown Helen. Nice variety of places to stay along this river from cabins and houses to hotels.
This is a great place for tubing. Chattahoochee River runs through the middle of Alpine Helen, Georgia. During the summer months, the river is flooded with visitors taking a relaxing ride in inner tubes. There is a plenty of water activities for the whole family to enjoy at Chattahoochee River .The name Chattahoochee is derived from a Muskogean word meaning "rocks-marked" (or "painted"), from chato ("rock") plus huchi ("marked").. This possibly refers to the many colorful granite outcroppings along the northeast-to-southwest segment of the river. Much of that segment of the river runs through the Brevard fault zone. Another common name for the Chattahoochee River is 'The Hooch. The Tubing season in Helen starts in late May and runs everyday until the first weekend in September, then runs on weekends to October. We were here at the right time in the month of August and we enjoyed seeing Alpine Helen from the comfort of a lazy river ride through the downtown area of the city. There are two Tubing companies in Helen and both companies provide different lengths of trips with free shuttle service. Tubing in Alpine Helen Ga is one of the biggest attractions for the summer and provides a cheap and easy way to entertain the whole family.
It was so much fun watching the tubers. Not only the young people, buy we saw people our age which are seniors, and even dogs.
You couldn't ask for anything cleaner that the Chattahoochee River for a fun time of tubing. The pace and water levels made for excellent tubing and lots of laughing. Helping others and them helping us as needed was never an issue and added to the fun.
We came to Helen specifically for the tubing experience and we really enjoyed it. It's a great family experience and something that is great for the young and the old. I would suggest getting up early if you're going to catch a bus to the drop spot, as it can be an hour or more wait later in the day. Lucky for us, we had two vehicles, so we drove one up and got way ahead of the people waiting for the bus...we just went back to the flea market later in the evening to retrieve our vehicle. This is something I would highly suggest :)
