We were there only for an afternoon drink. The atmosphere was great, the west-facing terrace shaded, and the lemonade fresh. Service was inside only but friendly, as were some local patrons. The outdoor no-smoking signs were accompanied by ashtrays which were being used.
We stayed in Julia's room and loved wondering throughout the property and pointing out historic building details. Our room was very clean and the bathroom had modern/updated details. The room has a small desk and another chair in the corner (sort of a sitting area). Staff was wonderful and there was plenty of good coffee to be had downstairs in the morning!
We were very happy we choose the Copper Queen. So much wonderful history. Wonderful staff. Very nice room. Close to shopping and restaurants. We plan to visit this Hotel again
Centrally located is good; no hotel parking is not good; ambiance is good, rooms are smallish with few amenities, room views are good, did not try their restaurant, staff is just ok, it is historic and this aspect has to be important to you to make this worth while.
we stopped here for a drink twice, the bar staff were not very friendly on either occasion, the bar was left full of dirty glasses while the bar tender chatted with her friend.... Not a good impression.
A good place to while away the afternoon with a pitcher of margaritas or a bottle of chilled wine.Relax and watch the town go by.
The food is good in the restaurant & tastes even better if you can sit at one of the tables outside, on a small terrace. It overlooks Howell Ave & it is fun to "people watch" out there. No views from an inside table & the décor is quaint but dated & too cutesy for my taste (please, please replace those lace sheer curtains!). Have more fun in the period bar & chat with the other visitors & they make a mean Bloody Mary with so many things to munch on put on a skewer. Prices are very reasonable in both the bar & the restaurant, considering Bisbee is a tourist town.
We were directed to the Copper Queen Hotel by a local resident who told us about its background. So, to some extent, we knew what to expect. It is a family-run hotel. As such, it lacks many of the amenities seen in chain hotels (e.g., card key entry, valet parking, room service etc). However, it is charming & historical and the staff are approachable and accommodating. The hotel is old & shows its age. Many (especially those who stay for several days) may find this aspect disconcerting, but it is, after all, part of the charm of staying in a historical hotel reputed to be haunted by at least 3 ghosts (per the booklet in the hotel room). For the record, we did not see or hear any ghosts during our one night stay. The CQ's location, adjacent to the museum, makes it a convenient base for sightseeing. Also, the CQ is, apparently, the only hotel in Bisbee with an elevator. We were allowed to choose from several rooms. As part of that process, we got to see the Lilly Langtry room (the best in the hotel according to the owner) but it was a little too flamboyant for us (brass beds, a picture of Lilly over the bed etc). Our room on the 4th floor, with 2 queen beds, was clean and quiet with wallpaper reminiscent of the Victorian era. The windows (3) were small and set high in the wall. One window contained the heating/ac unit. Consequently there was no view from that window. From the 2 other windows, there was quite a nice view of a hillside with houses. The bathroom was fairly large with a shower-tub combo. The closet was in a little alcove. We had a little difficulty opening and closing the room door, but they dealt with the problem by giving us a new key.The included breakfast was spartan (the owner warned us about this when we checked in). Parking is on the street or in the adjacent YMCA parking lot. Exiting from the YMCA lot was more difficult than we anticipated as the one-way road was narrow and steep but we learned to adapt.Suggestions: (1)The addition of a ramp beside the front steps will be helpful for the many guests with mobility issues. (2) Replacing the room door locks with card keys or programmable keyless entry systems would be a relatively low cost upgrade that would enhance the stay experience.
