We stopped for lunch at the Casino after visiting Montezuma's Castle. They are very close to each other. The lunch buffet was good. There was a nice variety of choices. We did not gamble. Much of the casino was closed, we are assuming for remodeling.
Whatdoya expect? It's a casino. No more. No less. If you need a break, and enjoy gambling, and you're in the area, then here ya go.
We went there a few hours, had a nice time, won some money, ate at the buffet, and went home. Overall a decent experience. There are many retirees playing the slot machines and the place was somewhat crowded on a weekday afternoon. The staff were friendly too and the waitresses frequently asked if the customers wanted drinks. The buffet was just average and some of the food items were just warm ; not hot. I would be willing to go again despite the smoke.
The staff are great, the happy hour prices are good, and the restaurant has good food. So you can't ask for too much more, except maybe bigger jackpot payoffs on slots. There is a good variety of slots to choose from. Have not yet tried the blackjack tables...maybe next month!
The Casino sports four restaurants. One is fine dining, one serves grab and go food, another 50's style meals, and finally, one is the obligatory buffet that every Casino seems to have. They have a Sports Bar, two other small bars, a children’s play area, bowling alley, some gaming tables, and lots of slot machines that play games that I am totally unacquainted with. My wife and I used to enjoy the old slots that created a commotion when one got even the most modest win. These new machines seem so contrived by setting off a sound of dropping quarters when one cashes out; only to produce a slip of paper telling you how much of your $20 bill is gone. When we were young, we would spend hours pulling the handles of the 'one armed bandits'. Now that one pushes a button and everything is electronically generated, the fun and excitement wanes quickly. I guess I will spend my time in Johnny Rocket's Restaurant to get my nostalgia fix.
Don't go if you don't like cigarette smoke. This is a smoking casino. We went for the bowling and the Saturday night buffet. The buffet was amazing. Great food and great service. We don't gamble so skipped that part. But you have to walk through the casino to get to the buffet. Lots of stinky smoke.
Been here twice. First time in 2014 and played some Pai-Gow and 3 Card Poker. This time they had only 4 card tables open with no Pai Gow. The place is smoke filled. Was in Vegas 2 days later and realized how bad Cliff Castle was. If you like slots well it is your spot then. I recall last year that the pit boss noted he had no dealers for Pai-Gow, maybe that is why they eliminated it.
This is not the bling and wow of Vegas, but if you like slots it can be entertaining. Mostly retired folks and they have buses and a "hotel" near by. Not bad if you go with the right expectations. I would not call this a "destination" and more of a local distraction if you want to try something different from rocks, hiking and food/wine.
We like to come up here for a weekend getaway. The hotel is showing it's age, but is clean and well kept. They provide a free breakfast for hotel guests, eggs, waffles, and COFFEE. There is not a coffee maker in the room. The price is what you expect for what you get. The casino is up the hill from the hotel. You can drive yourself, or BETTER yet, call for the shuttle. They are free, but please tip your driver, they are doing a great job! We never had to wait long for one to come and pick us up right at the room. They run 24/7. Casino is average, but you CAN win onces in awhile. The dinning is a little to be desired. Most of the time we eat at the Three Sisters. The food and prices are what brings us here. The high dollar place is like a cave, and I can't see what I'm eating. The buffet is OK, but don't go for the "prime rib", it is a roast of some kind, not what is you want. Johnny rockets and the bowling alley food is good if you are wanting a 50's style dinner. I like to be at the bar for the games, so I am a Three Sisters fan. Try the breakfast sandwich!
Besides the usual slots cliff castle casino also offers food, bowling, and a fun place for the kids. A little bit for everyone. If your looking for loose slots and good cheap buffet...this is not the spot.
My husband and I went to the Cliff Castle Casino for Christmas. We gambled some (didn't win), Had lunch at Johnny Rockets (good old fashioned 50"s Food), There was also a small cafe, and a fine dining resturant that we will check out next time. Also they have a full bowling alley, a neon palace pinball room, poker room, and a secure room for children to play in. The childrens room had every imaganable devise to entertain kids, even an Ipad section . This was a fun place even though we didn't win the big time, we will return to check out not only the casino, but the motel attached to it.
If you want to have a great time playing Texas Hold'em don't skip this casino. I returned here after a two year absence and this place only gets better! Reasonable blackjack starting limits of only $5 and a poker room staff that is friendly, efficient, and well run! They have morning $25 games and a Saturday nooner for $100 with no buy-ins! So if you are in Sedona area and enjoy cards, stop here and have fun!
Let me start off by saying I have been to Cliff Castle MANY times over the years. What happened to me last night will make me NEVER, EVER return to gamble there. I was playing a progressive machine and had a couple hundred invested into the machine. I am actively playing and having a good time. Then I am told I will have to cash out the machine because they are putting it out of service. Are you kidding me?! I am playing and have lots of credits how can you tell me I have to cash out?? Well needless to say I was literally forced off the machine and it was placed out of service. I have never had this happen anywhere I have ever gambled at, and I gamble in Vegas, Laughlin, and other AZ casinos. How can they get away with that??! They could have waited until I was done playing and then put the machine out of service. I hope that everyone who reads this will think twice about gambling there. This is not acceptable gaming practices in my book!!
The overall casino is great just don't stay at the hotel, the casino could use more Game King machines.
So when you get poor service, it is very noticeable and can easily ruin an evening. We were there for two nights and both times the staff did not have time to provide barely poor service. HOWEVER, the staff of Johnny Rocket's were terrific and saved the casino from total ruin. These young staff were just plain great! The BEST!
