Based on the outward appearance I was skeptical of what was inside. The tasting room offered a variety of wines from very sweet to dry; the gentleman in charge of the tasting room was both friendly and knowledgeable. For $10 you are offered a logo glass and five pours. The glass will get you a discount at other area wineries. We purchased two bottles of wine and enjoyed the experience.Give it a try.
Intimate and cozy atmosphere. We went there when it was raining but they were lifted in spirits and made our stop very enjoyable! Jim was excellent company and the wine was delicious
My husband & I attended the Wine Festival at Elgin Winery. The drive there was fabulous with fall foligae, various birds and animals. The winery itself is relaxing, the wine stewart was personable and informative. There were vendors that had interesting and unique items. We purchased gifts for the holidays as well as some jewelry for me! The wine is sweet, semi sweet and dry. The prices were very reasonable. It was a fun day - music, stomping of grapes, great bbq and shopping! I disagree that the facility was not very attractive.. there were flowers and decorative items which were warm and inviting. We got great service and came home with a couple of nice wine glasses we purchased with the wine tasting. There is an Art & Wine Festival there this coming weekend.. Nov 22 & 23rd. We plan to attend with two other couples -- just to have a day trip & continue our holiday shopping. There will be live entertainment a singer from Color me Music - Tina Vale. We are excited!
This place was a vineyard we visited while passing thru the Sonoita area this last weekend. We were looking for some sweet wines and someone recommended it to us, so we tried it out. We enjoyed several of their wines, but felt the facility itself was not very attractive and that they could have done more to make it more visually appealing. They also didn't have any of their wine glasses for sale and that's part of the fun for us, collecting glasses from all the different wineries we visit.
We want to apologize for not being opened when you came to visit us. Gary was involved in a fatal head on collision and had to be air vac to Tucson a few days before. We had no one else to open for us and he was physically not able to. We apologize again and we do have the utmost respect for all of our customers.Kathy
We came on a Sunday to avoid the crowds, great wines, great prices, great service. She really went out of her way to help people picking wines to taste from a generous selection. Very relaxed and inviting tasting room. Many sweet wines as well as semi sweet and dry in red, white, and blush. Check out their website for one of their events. Also they are going to start distilling rum, which if as good as their wine, should be fantastic. Cudos for a great getaway destination, but also some of their wines are available at totally wine and more up in the valley. Angelica, Jules, and tombstone Madame are my favorites. Thanks village of Elgin, I'll be back.
We stopped in to Village of Elgin on a recent visit to Sonoita and I was surprised to see how many more wines they now have on their tasting menu. It appears that they've branched out - way out - into a couple different labels. We tried a dozen of the wines, and none of them were very good. It seems like they should perhaps get back to the basics, and try to produce a few high quality offerings, instead of 20+ mediocre ones. To top off the visit, the man behind the bar appeared to be disinterested and overworked. We won't be back.
This by far was the BEST winery on Elgin road . Jim was very helpful and super nice. We love moscato wines and he had four of them from sweet to mild. We bought six bottles to be shipped home to us. We live on the east coast and moscato is everywhere here but the moscato here was number one in my books. They also had a white merlot that was awesome! I don't like red wine because of the dryness but the white merlot was perfect blend of sweet and smooth.
Spent the afternoon in Elgin on the 4th of Jan. Went to every winery on Elgin rd. this by far was the worst I've ever tasted. It seems that most who like it prefer sweet wine and not the true taste and complexity that a good wine should deliver. I tried every red, (tombstone) the last straw was the one that smelled like diesel and acetone! Tasted a small sip from each and they tasted the same, as if they tried to make each one different, I dumped them out. My fiancé tried others and was equally disappointed. Every other winery I tasted, I drank the whole sample. I don't think they even have there own vineyard!
Visited with my parents during a getaway. Enjoyed that they had a huge variety of sweeter whites and reds as that is what my parents enjoy. Loved the rustic feel of the entire place and would love to come back if they do events in the courtyard....I know it would be so much fun!
Village of Elgin is the best place for Arizona wine. They are friendly and a preferred destination. I have been going there for 10 years and I cant wait to go back. I took my friends there and now they talk about it and return yearly. I have been to wineries all over the US and I love Village of Elgin the best. Thanks to Gary and his wife for the yummy cake and experience ... We will be back.
I was looking for some great local wines to bring back to family in Ontario and was told this was the place to go. We arrived and were in the "tasting room" for almost 10 minutes before anyone came to help us at all.Once someone came - they were very helpful with tasting and offering samples of wines for selection. The interior is dreary and dark - it definitely needs a facelift BUT they do carry a few different wineries and their selections so it made shopping a bit easier than going to one winery at a time.So - if you're near - it's worth stopping in but expect darkness, a nice staff when they are there to help and a great selection of wines.
This place needs a facelift, and some wines that represent something other than commodity grade cheap tasting boozy wines. Clean your yard and haul off the broken cars!
The wine was great at this Winery, and the staff was VERY helpful about the surrounding location and amenities. EVERY last wine that they manufactured had a personal story to go with it, and every wine, as well, was AZ sourced. I appreciate wineries in AZ that try to keep it "in the family" so to speak. :)
My sister-in-law and I have been here for the last two years. The wine tasting was exceptionally fun last year as the guy pouring the different wines was friendly, funny, and knowledgeable about the many wines we tried. This last March the fellow pouring must have been quite new as he was hesitant about the history of the wine, was kind of stand-offish, and came off as not very friendly. But coming away from both years, I would go back there again. I love this area and you don't have to drive all over the state to find some great wines and wine tastings.
