We found the service to be excellent. I was not well the morning of our ride, pretty annoyed considering we had come as far a Sydney Australia. The team were able and happy to accommodate moving our ride to the afternoon. Gabe was waiting for us patiently when we got a bit lost and even checked in on us on the way there . Well done Gabe for answering the 50000 questions my 10yr old daughter asked him back to back. He was so patient and was happy to listen to her and answer her many questions. Thanks for a pleasant experience from the Cassidy's from down under
Well worthwhile experience! We had a Groupon, but it would have been worth the full price. Unexpected weather (sleet & high winds in late April) delayed our horseback ride by 1 week, but the drive back to the stable from Phoenix was definitely worth it for the perfect day we enjoyed horseback riding in early May. When we arrived at the stable area 30 minutes early as advised, our 2 wranglers were in an adjacent pen with a mare who had just gone into labor. What an unbelievable experience watching a colt brought into the world! Definitely an awesome "freebie" to our horseback experience. We enjoyed our relaxing 2-hour ride with about 8 other riders and 2 wranglers. Gorgeous, expansive views over the Arizona high desert, complete with prickly pear cacti in bloom & scurrying lizards. Our wranglers told us that wildlife frequently seen on the ride include rattlesnakes, javelina, mule deer, coyote, cougar, & bobcat. We didn't see any of those animals, but it was getting to be the "heat of the day." The wranglers are good to assist those who are less experienced on horses (like my husband & I). I strapped my camera around my neck with a lanyard so I could still take pictures without the worry of dropping it. Closed toed shoes & jeans are a must, as you're going thru brushy areas at various points on your ride. A fanny pack is a good idea if you wish to keep any personal items on you. Otherwise, lock it up in your car. Also, use the restroom & have a last minute sip of water before the ride. We used the rest stop on I-17 not far south of the Hwy 69 intersection as you're going north from Phoenix. After our ride, we enjoyed a late lunch in Prescott on "Whiskey Row." Made for a perfect day!NOTE: Our only complaint is that the directions to the stable which are posted on their website are not entirely accurate. We'd advise to call & confirm directions, as we got a bit turned around getting to the stable. Otherwise, the rest of the tour was so wonderful that we're not "dinging" their rating for that.
My husband and I are both beginning riders and we had signed up for a 2 hour ride on 10/30. We were called to make sure we could find the ranch and when we arrived, we found out we were the only two riders for the specific time. Gabe was there and took us on a private tour of the ranch and made sure we were safe and gave us great views. He explained not only about the area, but also about the hours we were riding. He was a wonderful teacher and made us both feel comfortable with the ride. Thank you, Gabe, for treating us so special and thank you, Jim, for making sure we were well taken care of. We would definitely recommend your services to anyone! Tom and Marg
Had a great 2 hr ride on Nov 1st with our guide "Gabe". Expect wide open vistas on this scenic high country ride near Mayer, AZ.
My sister and I were visiting family in Arizona and wanted to ride while we were there. We were only there for a few days so we called some local stables who were unable to help us out as you needed to make reservations three days in advance. This was a problem for us as we were flying back home the next night. But when we called Pot o Gold, Gabe, agreed to take us out the next day!! Because of Gabe, we were able to take an awesome trail ride before our trip was over. Gabe was very friendly, patient and knowledgeable. If I was ever in that area again, I would definitely go back to Pot o Gold Stables. Thank you Gabe!!
I am a beginner rider, had a good horse and the guide was very knowledgable about the history of the area, Mayer AZ, would recommend for anyone, gonna take my nieces next time!
We went riding on Aug. 31 with our 2 daughters and Todd. Booking the trip over the phone was easy with the owner Jim; he was also very pleasent and accomodating. We all had a terrific time. Todd's love, knowledge of horses and ranching, and his dedication to his work was obvious. He was also extremely courteous and did everything possible to see that we had a nice visit. I would highly recommend coming out and seeing for yourself. If you have kids (even if they are young with no riding experience) they will love the place. We also had some time to see and pet the younger horses in the various stables and learned quite a bit about them. There is also a large trout and bass pond and beautiful panoramic views as far as the eye can see. We hope to go riding again there in the near future. It was the highlight of our trip to Arizona.
I took my niece who was visiting from Pennsylvania on a 2-hour trail ride with Pot A Gold Stables over Labor Day weekend. Our guide was Todd, who made a ride into an educational adventure. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the desert environment, and offered insights and information throughout the ride. Afterwards Todd and Pistol Pete took us to visit with the foals and their mamas - truly an experience for my niece. Todd and Pete helped make this auntie seem pretty cool! Thanks so much!P.S. Bring water bottles - they have carriers on the saddles.
We went with Pot a Gold based off of reviews. Booking was easy and Jim was very friendly. We chose the 3 hour ride through the Mayer Desert, as we wanted to ride for an extended period. We were given TODD as a guide who absolutely KICKED A$$! He was extremely knowledgeable, personable and easy to get along with. A true expert outdoors man with extensive experience with horses. We were supposed to ride through the Agua Fria river, however it was more like "Agua Nada", due to the time of year. Our horses were also characters of their own. I would definitely like to go back in a different season, and even ride a horse into, or through, significant water. I tried, but Willow just didn't want to jump into the pond. Pot a Gold definitely lived up to expectation. Thanks! Kirk & Jess. Aurora, IL.
Pot of Gold Ranch is a very cool place to visit. We took the 4 hour horseback trail ride and it was so enjoyable. Luke was our guide and he was so knowledgable about the area. He also had a great sense of humor and kept us entertained throughout the whole ride. We stopped at lunchtime in a very quiet and shady place where there was a cottonwood tree that was so massive that it would take 6 tree huggers to surround! The horses were so tame and sweet as well that it made for a very stress free ride for us. We were unexperienced riders and received instruction before and on the trail ride. We will definitely go back!
April 19th - Luke and Pam took us on a beautiful ride through the ranch, told us about the plants and animals that called it home and provided a memorable first-ride for us. The horses were mellow and well cared for, the guides were friendly and entertaining and made us feel like at home on a horse.Thank you so much Pam and Luke! The only thing we would have done differently is to book a longer ride! We will definitely be returning to Pot A Gold stables on our next trip to Arizona. This was the highlight of our vacation.
This was a great trip! I hadn't been on a horse in about 20 yrs and was a bit worried. They had stairs to get on and off (mount and dismount) making it real easy. I have had both knee and hip surgery and everything went fine. The horses were very well behaved and easy to ride. I would recommend this to everyone! Luke and Pam were very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Beautiful ride!! We went to nearby Prescott after and loved the town. It has great restaurants, shops, galleries, and friendly people, don't miss it! Makes for a great day.
What a wonderful experience. We planned a trip from the Phoenix area to the Pot A Gold stables in Mayer, AZ. We left the Goodyear area (southwest of Phoenix) before 8AM and headed up I-17N. Stopped for a bite of breakfast and pulled into the stables at 9:45. Our ride was scheduled for 10, and Luke and Pam were there waiting for us. Call them what you will, hired hands, cowboys (cowgirl), or wranglers - this husband wife team sure knew their way around horses and the 15,000 acre ranch. When we first arrived I walked into the stables and met Luke. He had on his cowboy hat, long sleeve shirt and vest with chaps and a pistol on his hip. If you're a cowboy fan and love the old west - bingo. You just hit the jackpot. We were intoduced to our horses, Marshmallow and Friendly, received a briefing and mounted up. LONG PANTS & CLOSED TOED SHOES are a must. The trails looked easy - but I would not want to walk them. No problem for the horses, though. Luke was extrmely knowledgeable about the the habitat and history of the area. I beleive Pam knew the ranch as well, but Luke did most of the ride. The scenery was incredible. Just sitting on the horse and looking out at an endless view. Spectacular.Go do this. Take your family, your friends or just your special one and enjoy an experience that you will talk about for a long, long time. And a special shout out to the owner, Jim. It's obvious in this family owned business, great service starts at the top.
This ranch is absolutely the prettiest I've seen! We took a 4 hour ride and had a blast. The views were amazing and it was everything I had hoped for in a horseback ride. The horses were all great but Willow was an awesome riding horse. For the first time ever I got to ride beside my son and take pictures! The guide Luke was the most entertaining I've had the pleasure of riding with and he kept my teenager entertained with jokes and knowledge of the area and the old west! Would highly recommend this stable to anyone looking to horseback ride in the Prescott area! Will be back again. :-)
I spent a wonderful time watching the newborn fillies running and playing. All the horses are wonderful. Another great trip to Pot A Gold Stables. Don't pass up a chance to watch the newest members at play.
