We booked a two hour horseback ride that takes the rider on some rugged trailers back to a gorgeous waterfall. We rode Bingo and Cesar and although initially a bit hesitant about the steep inclines and narrow trail, quickly relaxed when we saw how sure footed our horses were. Our guide was informative and especially helpful with mounting/dismounting and was obviously passionate about her work!It was a great experience and we'd book a ride again.
The "Raceways" that the small fish are swimming look full and very well kept. The inside building gave all the stories behind the scenes.
We came after the Labor Day holiday so may have gotten an off-season rate, but our guide & horses were superb. The animals are clearly well cared for & the guide loved her job!
We had a nice quiet hour long ride along a winding trail. Our guide was especially nice and engaging. Hope to go again soon!
LOVED THE TRAIL. went for my birthday and absoluelty loved it the staffs amazing thanks so much. This made this past birthday the most remember able one yet and made it like a tradition I will be back next year on my birthday as well
Stable hands were kind and generous with their time with our children and grandchildren. SOXX was the highlight for our granddaughter's trip.
Comfortable rooms and cabins along Tonto Creek, Good fishing, creek stocked. A little far(16 miles) from Payson.
Sure you can pony up (get it?) and ride horses, but for the kids? When they have time, the stable hands'll let your little ones ride (guided of course) for about 10 minutes, or 100 yards in a loop around the parking lot.. If they've never been on/around a horse, this is a great first time experience, and tips are appreciated. *Ask for Socks, the kids love Socks..
My grandson and I went riding last Saturday (it was a gift I gave him for turning 10) and we had a marvelous time. Our guide Lance was funny, informative and fun. They gave us carrots and apples to feed the horses. We were the last ride of the day so we watched them take off their bridles and saddles and give them their food. They take excellent care of their horses. Thanks for a memorable ride!
We booked a week at Kohl's Resort Lodge & were really looking forward to being at a resort with horseback riding on the premises. When I called ahead to double check cabin & book horses, we were informed that the horse stable was closed down. Because cabin booked in advance, it wasn't possible to cancel. The entire resort needs a makeover, furniture in cabin old & dirty, restaurant pricey for the food quality, & just not enough to do in the winter months with no stables. It was one of the most boring vacations I've taken although staff was very nice! Thank God for the casino in Payson or I would have left in a few days instead of just a day early.
We were so excited when we had made our reservation at kohl's Ranch Lodge and it had advertised horseback riding my boyfriend has never ridden a horse and I always had horses growing up, but we were told upon checkin that they would not be available.
I went on a trail ride here and it was a great time! Beautiful setting and very nice horses. I do know how to ride but it would be great for all levels. Check it out when in Payson AZ-also a great place to visit.
My husband and I brought our one year old for a short weekend getaway. The scenery was beautiful and there were a lot of activities for families with young kids. We stayed in the studio, next time we will stay in a cabin with an outdoor hot tub!
We decided to take a day trip to Payson. We specifically wanted to do some riding and found kohl's Ranch. It was very easy to find and once there we drove past the lodge and straight to the stables. The guides couldn't have been more friendly. We chose the 1 hr. ride as it had been a long time since either my husband or I had ridden. The ride itself was very peaceful. The guides were very helpful and gave us information about the forest, the horses and other rides that we could do another time. The horses were very gentle and knew the trail well. The one thing that you should know is that you need cash as they don't take cards here.We will definitely return to Kohls again!
The guides knew what they were talking about and made me feel comfortable (hadn't been riding since a teen). The scenary was beautiful and my horse was great. Haven't had that much fun in a while.
