The first time I was in Courtland - Gleason was 1967. Has the world changed, oh yes, count on it.In this short time many of the Ghost structures have simply disappeared. Some adventurer has jack hammered the barred windows out of the old jail. Amazing, how much can these be sold for? its sad one person narrows view cheats us all out of the time wonder feeling. Now it is just a cement building with holes in the walls. The driving trail north to Pearce is a great southern Arizona drive. This is why you are here. In summer take water and be sure your vehicle is up to the challenge. In the 19110 - 1920 over 2000 people lived here. It was a real town with a newspaper, car dealers grocery stores, hardware - even a cement jail. Now except for the mine dumps there isnt much left but the desert drive is very much worth it.
3 different Ghost towns to visit and walk to your hearts content! Watch out for the Rattlesnakes. Don't step over things without looking first. God's country is found here.....
This is a dirt road. Watch for the cattle walking down the middle of it. Many opportunities for photos of the old houses and buildings.athat are spread out along the old road that lead to today.
