The visitor center gives you as much information as some smaller mediums. Interesting. They offered a tour of the dam.

We visited this facility twice in the time that we were there, both times it was quite busy and the second time we paid for the five dollar tour of the workings of the Dam....it takes about 40 minutes, guided an electrical engineer at the time for his whole career and had retired as a tour guide for the last 20 years he was very informative and personable. I would recommend this to her to everyone.

We dropped in at the Carl Hayden visitor centre. It has a huge exhibit of the dam which was great for the kids. A gift shop to pick up souvenirs, a clean restroom and offered an expansive view of the Glen Canyon dam and Lake Powell. Comparing to Hoover Dam, Glen Canyon is much more accessible and easy to get to. The view of turquoise colored Lake Powell and the mighty Glen Canyon dam is much more impressive.

It is similar to all other dams.But it is much easier to walk in and take the tour.However you cannot just walk on the dam like Hoover dam. You have to take the tour to walk on the dam.There are many view points to view the dam.Tips:Take the tour - it is only $5.Go to other view points (Wahweap overlook, dam overlook) to actually see teh dam. This dam and tour are to know more about the dam itself.

Note that you also get a great view of the dam and the canyon from the view point at the Page; just continue on 89 south towards Page after the visitor center and you'll see it.This view point is right next to 89. It's free and need a minute or two walk down the stairs for the view point. You get two great views here; towards the dam, and towards the canyon. Even if you're not stopping by the dam, I'd recommended stopping by this view point for great photos.

We stopped here on our way to Horseshoe Bend and glad we did. The views are awesome and the visitor center is really nice, friendly folks that work there and a gentleman that gave us some good information about the area. Not sure how often they let the water thru but while we were there we got to see this which was rather neat. We also walked across the bridge and got some great shots looking into the canyon and at the Dam!

We did the tour and it was well worth the money but more so was the fact that it's not everywhere you can go see a dam and it's internals. It was a really interesting tour and our guide was very knowledgeable having grown up in the area. The Visitor Centre also has a wealth of information. If you visit Page make sure you give yourself time to visit this attraction.

Went in July 2009. It is less crowded than Hoover Dam, so you can take your time and explore the place and look at the Dam slowly. Love the views, it is really grand. We took our own sweet time to walk around the visitor center and look at the Dam.

We stopped for a better look at the dam and the lake behind it.Very nice visitor center. with great views.We didn't do the dam tour but I'm sure it would have been very good, we just didn't have the time that day to do it.

We stopped and did a quick tour through the visitors center. Didn't have time for the tour - although would have loved to do this! Very interesting dam! Right off the highway, easy access and very clean facilities!

The visitor center has a lot of information about how the dam was constructed and shows short videos that are very interesting. The guided tour of the dam is very interesting. Our guide was a young woman that grew up in the area and she was very knowledgeable on construction and operation. Have to take the tour if you visit the dam.

We stopped at both Hoover Dam and Glen Canyon Dam and in my opinion, Glen Canyon was much better. The two dams were built in a similar manner and almost look identical. Both have an arched girder bridge in front of them and both generate power. However, Hoover Dam is the older of the two and more famous. But, Glen Canyon is easier to get to, very visitor friendly and it is free for the most part. We took the tour of the inner workings of the dam and that costs $4 for a 45 minutes look behind the scenes, but that is the only cost associated with a visit and it is optional. But, that tour is really worth the time. You get to walk the top of the dam, get to see the power plant at the lowest level of the dam and are provide with a very informative explanation of how the dam was built and how it works. You can also walk on the bridge in front of the dam which provides you with some great photo opportunities. The visitors' center and gift shop are worth a visit as well. And it is quick, easy and convenient to visit compared to Hoover Dam-- at Hoover, you have to go through a security checkpoint on the road down to the dam, pay $10 for a convenient parking space and another $9 for a tour. It is also a relatively long drive off of Highway 93, the main road to Las Vegas, compared to Glen Canyon's easy pull-off. Plus, Hoover tends to be much more crowded that Glen Canyon. If you are doing the Zion-Bryce-Grand Canyon loop, Glen Canyon Dam should be a "must stop" for your trip.

We had no trouble getting into a mid-Oct Saturday morning tour without reservations, but the visitor center was hopping, and our tour did fill up. Visitors Center is a nice facility -- some interesting exhibits, a well-stocked shop, and they continually run movies about the construction of the dam -- maybe 20 minutes long? -- that are really interesting to watch. Tour is $5, and less than an hour, so not a big commitment. Our guide was tremendously informative, and it's amazing to think about what went into building this dam. Fun to walk out on the dam, and see Lake Powell on one side and the Colorado on the other. And to go down into the dam and see the turbines running.Be sure to walk across the bridge to Page and take in the views from there. Another great place for views of the dam is the overlook on Scenic View Drive -- just off rt 89, before you get into Page (it's the road that runs behind Denny's). Our Red Rock Motel folks had told us about that one, and we spent a good hour and a half climbing around on the rocks there and taking in the views.

My family enjoyed the tour at the dam. It was very interesting to learn the history of the dam as well as see how parts of it worked.
