Not much to see but old building and small garden area. Only original item is building itself, interior is not original to property but is period accurate. Very nice and informative host. Historical Society is trying to improve historic locations but progress is slow. Visit is free if you took Walking Tour of Old Yuma, otherwise you pay entrance fee. Display in attraction of Arizona Medal of Honor recipients. Your entrance fee will help pay for upgrades and improve site for future visitors, if that doesn't move you, skip it and come back in a couple of years.
Enjoy your day , walk the house and add lunch and shops and the bird Avery in the back, learn about how they use to live n the west in this little house
It is a very short walk from the main old town shops and right next door to the Garden Cafe restaurant and shops. Wonderful gardens as well. Take some time to check out the old photos. While you are there, check out the old ceiling in the front rooms.
A pleasant garden. The house is well preserved, and very interesting. The person that give us the tour was knowledgeable and gave a good explanation of the house and was able to answer our questions.
Ever since the AHS people from Phoenix and Tucson 'took' (another work is 'stole') the archives from here, as well as some of the things from the exhibits, this museum has not been worth visiting. The employees quit in protest, and the place is now run by who knows who, but that person doesn't know anything and doesn't care. That person is there to collect the entrance fees, period. The birds that adorned the garden have been sold and given away. Now only empty cages remain. The garden has this forlorn look to it. All in all, it is very sad. It is a travesty. What in the world was the Arizona Historical Society thinking?
This museum is small but take time to view the video they have and to walk through the garden and see the birds.Interesting home and exhibits.
Very interesting displays of early Yuma and its history. We were hoping to do some research in their library, but the collection has been sent to Tempe for cataloging and preservation. It should be back in aobut 8 months, according to the docent.
Wonderful museum of Yuma's early years. Good gift shop with a discount for museum members
The displays were pretty nice, though a little dusty. It's an old house, and laid out in an interesting way- no cookie cutter ranch here. The front rooms with the authentic viga ceiling is maybe the best part inside, though the military displays were definitely cool. And the Flooding of Yuma room was great. The Indian pots and baskets were fascinating, too. The older gentleman who greeted us was very knowledgeable- he answered every question we threw at him with good humor and patience, though the young woman in the office talking loudly on the phone with what could only be her boyfriend was distracting, and even irritating. Outside, the gardens and exotic birds were amazing- this is the desert? Someone was preparing for a wedding, and we could totally see why they'd do it there. It was a beautiful place. We picked up a book on 'soiled doves' at their gift shop (fantastic book selection! Nothing you'd ever be able to find in a big box type book store). And next door was this funky, very cool outdoor restaurant, the Garden Cafe. The food was absolutely yummy. I haven't had a sandwich that good since Ingrid's Delicatessen in Pacific Beach closed. And the iced tea. Oh! The iced tea! Chai spice is bland compared to their spiced iced (as the waitress called it). I had to buy a pound of it to take home and make (do they do mail order? 'Cause I'm already running out). Anyway, do the Museum and the Garden Cafe. It's a great way to spend the morning or afternoon.
