A great spot to sit and think!! I have taken my hubby and lots of friends up there!!! Everyone says wow!!!!!!
The first time I was here I stayed in town for a couple of nights with my sister such a neat place, And cool monument. The second time I was here we were on our way Home and stopped in town so I could show the monument to my son and have dinner. Just kind a neat something to see.
Off the beaten track, this little memorial made me smile. Nicely landscaped and very unique, I'll be back after the Broomcorn Festival to get a picture...in a tie-dyed shirt...
Onergrown, neglected, and unloved but worth stopping for a photo for the fun of it. Off the beaten path. Not much else to see or do in this town. Warning. Many places are closed and look deserted. Some are closed on Monday (?). This town needs a little more civic pride !
We came looking for the geocache at the memorial so it was a neat place to hide a geocache and to learn about the memorial. It was fun looking at the abstract art pieces. Is it worth the trip to stop and look....for the geocache yes!
There is af small " memorial ??" with small metal pieces and a statement describing the artist and saying that Pres. Kennedy (Camelot, as he called him) helped bring the morals of the country down which he thought was a good thing and President Reagan throwing that out and bringing back more strict, judgemental codes back in. I wasn't impressed with the "expression" at all. Unless you're into the "hippie era" thing, I wouldn't bother.
I didn't think it was anything great. It looks like it was something that maybe people don't really pay attention to.
The story behind the art. I am not someone that looks at abstract art and marvels at what it represents , but when i read the plaques explanation it made all the sense in the world, this and the Lawn Rangers are truly Amazing Arcola gems.
You will never see anything like this. The artist who did this was eccentric and this is probably no great work of art. But it is interesting in the same way a white elephant is interesting.
If you're able to lower your expectations and see this attraction in its true glory, you will depart with an extrasensory joy of universal happiness. It's also recommended that you smoke a big doob on the back side as a train passes to get the full experience.....
There is nothing left on it. A Bunch of old rusted metal things. All the painting is washed out and not worth mentioning.
Got the impression that Bob Moomaw's outlook was "life sucks and then you die". Sort of depressing actually.
Was just fun to look at and read. I saw it on sillyamerica.com
We stopped in Arcola on our way to Iowa because I had read about a Hippie Memorial, maybe the only one in the country. It was kind of hard to find and was really just a big artistic wall, but was still a nice little stop.
