This is a must place to visit in the fall! This is the best pumpkin patch I have ever visited! Friendly people, great attractions for all age levels. We will be back (every year!)
We go to Radar every year before Halloween. Always fun doing the corn maze and they switch some things up every year. It's a fun tradition that we do every year, check out the activities and grab some apple cider and a pumpkin. Definitely a great place to take the family as we look forward to our visit every year!
We went in a group with one senior, 6 adults, one elementary age child, one toddler and a one year old. We all found something we enjoyed to do. There is a wide variety of activities, the grounds are kept very clean, and safety is a nice focus. We were visiting in the area and were pleased to find such a family friendly activity we could all enjoy.
My nearly five year old grandson loved it all - the train ride, the horse swings, the animals, all the activities and things to see. Everything was clean and well-maintained. Wide open spaces and plenty of benches for watching the fun. Clever farm-themed activities and displays. I loved it too. This is truly a family business - local, well run, well planned place.
I went to high school with the owners, Lynn and Linda Rader. Last weekend I checked with a cousin on my way from Champign to Chicago and she was working at the farms and said I should stop by. In spite of cold and rainy whether there was a nice crowd. Lynn Rader started selling pumpkins on the honor system behind his house about 6 or 7 years ago and each year he added to the Fall event (September and October). The result is a delightful family place with food, fun and educational activities. Great place for kids to have fun on the farm. My cousin tells me that the Schoolhouse hosts many field trips each year where former teachers explain the planting and growth of pumpkins and grains on the farm. School teachers give it high ratings. I loved the little kids picking out pumpkins and gourds to take home by the pound. You really need to visit this farm.
We buy a pass every year so we can go over and over again, sometimes multiple times a week. My children (2,4,6) never tire of all the fun stuff to do and animals to see. If you are in the area in the fall this place is a MUST VISIT. Be sure to visit the cafe for some yummy treats too! And plan to spend several hours here with your kiddos.
The activities here are mostly geared for pre-teens, though the older kids could find some things to do. Lots of different activities that involve running, jumping, digging, climbing and playing. They also have refreshments available. There is a wide variety of pumpkins and gourds for sale. My only complaint is the admission was a bit pricey for what they are offering, and they charge separately for their full size corn maze. They should at least float a free pumpkin or something. The price on the pumpkins was no steal either. Still, the kids had fun.
We have enjoyed Rader Farms the past 2-3 years with our family. We have 2 young children-now 8 and 4. They love all the activities: the barrel ride, playing in the corn, the slide (but it is really dirty), the sheep... Jumpy pillow and everything else. The kettle korn is really good too. There is a tall measuring stick decoration that is so adorable. We take a picture there every yet and can see how much the kids have grown. There's also an old blue truck with fall decorations that make a picture perfect back drop for family pictures. We love this place!
Just the fact tht it is so small and they charge is ridiculous. You can drive to Peoria and go to Tanner's Orchard, which is HUGE, and it doesn't cost anything. Everything inside Rader's is overpriced. Will keep my money for something better.
Rader Farm has been a tradition for us the last two years. When we first came across the farm, we honestly didn't think there was much to the place and were a little taken aback by the admission cost. BUT. I am soooo glad that we stuck around because we spent all day there. It is well worth the money and a family can easily get their money's worth from the cost of admission. The only thing we don't much care for is the corn maze....but we just don't enjoy them much anyway. Their maze is better than many, as it has a "passport" with checkpoints. The jumping pillow is AMAZING and we have so much fun on it. There are too many things to list. We highly recommend this place for a fall outing and can't wait for the 2013 season!
