Interesting all year round. Trails are short to moderate length, can cover the entire area in an hour or so. Can easily access Crystal Lake Park, adjoining it, by foot and extend your walking experience.
I love this place. Very serene and mostly natural. I refuse to go during the wet season due to the mosquitos. They are everywhere out here! Other than that, it's a nice serene place to walk through.
This is a nice place to walk on the trails. Be sure to bring your camera or binoculars though! I saw a red tailed hawk flying high in the air. The flowers were in bloom and I was able to take some pretty photos of those! There were some people jogging on the path and others on roller blades. Area is well cared for with nice signage.
Busey Woods is a small remnant of the Big Grove forest that existed when the area was first settled. It's got walking paths through the woods, and is especially wonderful on a hot summer day (though of course it's also beautiful in spring and fall). If you walk quietly, you are sure to see deer and other wildlife. There are lots of birds, of course (if you enjoy watching birds, be sure to visit the Anita Purves Nature Center and go to their bird viewing room. Be aware, though, that Busey Woods contains areas that stay wet (there's a board walk over them), so be prepared for mosquitoes.
