Their concrete lap is almost 1 km long (~970 m), so it's really good for speed work or intervals. I also saw a few facilities for kids, and some families visiting the park on a weekend - it must be fun.
Took my grandsons there while we were visiting Champaign and they just loved it! Neat stuff to do, clean, beautiful, with lots of tables for picnics! The waterplay area was GREAT! The boys loved using all the sprinklers ! So fun!
Nice water sprays for kids. Many picnic tables...shade and walkingpath. Normal playground. Lots of parking
My family and I loved this place so very well kept. Very beautiful and peaceful place. Great place for a picnic, play tennis, children's play or just take a nice stroll.
On the first warm weekend of the year, we packed a picnic and spent the afternoon at Hessel Park. The park is large enough that we had plenty of space between us and the other picnickers. We enjoyed watching different groups enjoy the park in various ways, baseball, easter egg hunt, picnics, grilling out, etc.
My wife works right next to this park. We take walks through here often. Hessel Park is small, but it's got a nice playground for the kids, several covered pavillions w/ tables, and a beautiful landscape.
I have come to this park since I was a kid and enjoy it still! I like to walk around the park and enjoy the flowers. I have come here for concerts in the summer and the various events they hold here as well. Good place to watch the fireworks in July as well.
I've loved this centrally located park since I was a kid. I visiting Champaign recently and made an effort to walk around the park and share it with my husband. It's green, large and safe.
I run here every other day. I always see the park staff out early cleaning the water attraction and the rest of the park. Sometimes the park gets trashed after a holiday, but the always are out early the next morning cleaning it up. Sad that people do that, but that's another story. It has a nice sidewalk, running path around the park. There are a couple of drinking fountains next to it. Even has one for the dogs! Lots of dog waste bags. People use them and are usually really good about picking up after their pets. It's a nice park with plenty of trees, pavilions, wide open spaces and more. Very clean. It's a little gem in the middle of Champaign.
With its garden spots, spacious well tended lawns, tennis courts, covered eating areas, and plenty of free parking, this is a favorite destination for families and couples in warm weather. Just a block from another city favorite, Djarling's Custard Cup, it's a place to enjoy sunshine and spring breezes. Bring your frisbee.
Took my grandbaby there to enjoy the playground and the splashpad. They turn it on at about 11 then off at 1 and on again from 3pm to 5pm. It is a small area with ground fountains and sprinkler tunnels that delighted our 2 year old. This is a great park and very large. 2 sets of equipment designed to accommodate kids of all ages. TONS of grass to walk the dogs, or run with the kiddos - best of all..... bathrooms close to the playground area.
This is a popular spot for many events. If you want to run a few loops, walk your dog, play tennis or bring your kids to play on the playground then it is the place for you. Jarlings Custard Cup is nearby for a treat and a nice walk in the park. It also hosts events by the park district like concerts and films under the stars.
Almost 27 acres of grass and pretty trees just west of Kirby and S. Neil St. Love to spend warm evenings walking over to Jarlings for a frozen custard and walking back home through the park. There's a nice curved paved path surrounding the park (a little over half-a mile long), big playground, somewhat tired ballfield, lighted four tennis courts, seasonal water fountains and bathrooms, several pet cleanup stations. There's a shelter that seems popular in the summer, along with picnic tables and grills scattered about. Convenient parking is available on three sides of the square park.
If you want to plan an outdoor picnic or a play date or a visit to a park in Champaign, this is the place to go. On a nice day you will see many people in the park and the kids' area has lots of playing/climbing equipment. For added diversity make sure to bring a ball.
Hessel is a great neighborhood park with lots of running room, good quality tennis courts, a recently refurbished playground, and pavillions and picnic areas for 6 to 60 people. It has a sidewalk going all the way around that is marked in miles for joggers, and a sprayground for kiddie water fun in the summer. I live just a couple blocks from the park and we go here all the time with the kids. In fact, when we moved houses we chose to stay in this neighborhood in part to be near this park.
