Family friendly apple orchard with a great variety of apples. Last year there was something go pick August-November.
Not alot of fancy stuff but the raspberries were reasonably priced and fun to pick.Going back soon for blueberries, and blackberries. Have picked then there before.Wear bug repellant. Bring cash. Bring water. CALL FIRST. they regulate picking so it is optimally good for pickers. A nice hour or two and will certainly make you appreciate the migrants who pick commercially.
they have a great selection of apples pumpkins other fruits and berries. and they are a real home town type of people. alwayse ready to help you select the best for your needs
We stopped for cider doughnuts mainly. Some of the bigger, more commercialized orchards charge an admission, so we were glad to skip that. The kids played a little while in a strawbale fort, I took some pictures, then headed to the store, debating whether to go out and pick apples or buy them. Opted to just get cider doughnuts, price equivalent to other local places, and super yummy. A fine day, local for me, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go there.
I liked the price for the apples and they were fun to pick your own too.I have also taken preschool children on a tour here in the past and they let each child have a free apple to eat. very nice.
Small, not a lot to offer and little pricey. Okay products.
Take a step back in time... to a day when home grown produce was planted, picked and harvested with care... to a place where knowledgable family members and staff believe quality means more than quantity...to a time when life was a little bit slower and quite a bit friendlier...you've just taken a step into Valley Orchard. Our family has visited for nearly 25 years and we've never been disappointed. We don't have to worry if the corn is ready or if the blueberries and apples are ripe because when the owner and his team say they're ready -- they are ready and not before. We've visited in spring for rhubarb and asparagus, bought our fill of corn, tomatoes and berries during summer and have always returned for apple season. Our son is grown now and we have great memories of those years. You can even pack a picnic and eat there!.They have a new barn filled with many jams, jellies and other goodies and gifts. You should visit and see for yourself! :-)
We had a GREAT time!! I love that everything was very simple. We were given our baskets, directed where the most berries were, and we went to work. There were no extra attractions like train rides, etc., which I liked. We saw some "locals" there, which is always a good sign. We're definitely planning on going there for apple picking. I liked that the trees were low so that little ones could pick their own apples. Though beware that there are not a huge variety of apples available. It's a perfect length drive from the northern suburbs of Chicago-----approximately 1 1/2 hours----not too long. I would definitely recommend Valley Orchard to a friend. In fact, I'm about to email one right after this.
