I stopped by on our way south to inquire about their service of redoing my C-3 seats and Mike Yager, president of the company, started visiting with me by asking about my restoration plans--taking his time to visit with me. He also agreed to let my wife photograph he and me. Mike asked me,before the photo, what other corvette I have,a C-5, so he led us to a C-5 on display and moved the signage to be able to take the photo.
This was a VERY nice minni display of vettes. I was very jealous and impressed with the different models that Mike Yager has in his collection. The Corvette is definitely a American icon. Everyone would enjoy taking the time to go to MY GARAGE Museum. P S there are also a few VW'S there too and a gift shop. They do ask for a donation which lets you get a book that has a lot of good info in it.
Take the Seigel exit in Effingham to rt 45 North, then stop by and visit this Corvette and VW museum that will have give you a trip down memory lane. It may be small but packs some very interesting cars you may not see anywhere else. And they have a gift shop, website, and catelog to order from as well. In the summer they have huge cars shows and festivals as well.
the museum was a little small. we were there for funfest so it was just an added attraction. Glad we did not drive that far for the museum only. funfest was very fun.
The Volkswagens were not there the day we were - off in some other field down the road.... There were several corvettes of different years and styles on location but the building was very quiet and not a lot of information about each car was displayed. I realize this is a personal collection and it is very nice to admit the public at no charge but I was expecting to see more cars. The area surrounding the museum is nice and they put on a good show several times a year. Last time I was there was about fifteen years ago and they have definitely grown since then. Worth a stop if you are in the area.
Nicely displayed Corvettes, even a couple of prototypes. The staff was very knowledgeable with any questions that were ask. This is a small self guided tour, well organized. It is a private collection. They also have a sales room for anything Corvette. The Volkswagon were out for a show the day we were there, I would stop back again when passing through to see them. This museum is FREE and makes a good stop if passing through the area.
A free exerience to see Corvettes up close. Read the history behind the individual corvettes, shop in the store. Freindly staff, very clean.
There's a good number of corvettes, both original and restored, here, and they are incredible. There are also some classic VW's here, but they weren't available for viewing when I visited. Volkswagen Fest was the upcoming weekend so they were preparing for that. The shop has good stuff, and the staff are very friendly. Best of all, the admission and parking are absolutely free.
This place is great for anyone who is into corvettes. The museum is full of old corvettes, there are also some VW there as well. It isn't an all day trip, my husband and I were in and out in about an hour. If you need someplace to pass some time though, and you want to check out some really nice cars, this is your place!
If you're into cars and specifically Corvettes (or VW's) this is a fun place to visit. There is an excellent collection of Corvettes and a good exhibit of old air-cooled military vehicles (sorry, no more info on this part). Great gift shop with tons of shirts, hats, and other souvenirs - perfect gifts for the Corvette lover! Definitely worth a stop!
Cool place. Effingham is a great friendly town. Great place to live or just visit!!! Mid America Motorworks is an awesome place. Check out the Corvette fest every year!!!!
Had a lot of various aged Corvettes and memorabilia. They can host catered "finger food" type receptions. Very clean and fun.
Mike Yager's personal collection of unique and rare Corvettes is superb! Even if you are only a casual fan of the American love affair with the automobile, you will be impressed and awed with the significance of the particular Corvettes in Mike's "My Garage" Museum. And the admission is FREE! This display rotates on a regular basis, so one can usually see 2 or 3 "new" cars. Easy to find on Route 45 just a mile or so north of Effingham IL. Interstates 70 & 57 take you almost right to the front door. There is an actual old time gas station which was relocated to the grounds and makes for a fantastic photo opportunity. There is also a "Speedway" locale which serves the same purpose. Many Corvette memorabilia, clothes & books are available (many at discounted prices because.........Mike is just a really nice guy!)
Mid America puts on an awesome aircooled VW show each year rain or shine. Unfortunately this year was more rain than shine but they went out of their way to make it enjoyable despite the weather.
The My Garage Museum may not be large in scale, but it is a fairly interesting stop for car (& especially Corvette) enthusiasts. The museum is easy to get to, being just off Interstate 70. I was confused on where to park though; I didn’t see the sign on the stone entrance marker for the museum; I ended up going further down the road & mistakenly parking next to the business’s warehouse & office space. The museum is free, and split into two wings (Corvette & VW) attached to the gift shop. As a Corvette enthusiast, I enjoyed reading the informational signs that went with each Corvette, and seeing vintage advertising signs displayed along with them. The museum is clean, mostly well organized, and you can take as many pictures as you want. There’s nothing interactive about the museum, but that’s ok. The highlight for me was seeing both the last C4 generation Corvette, and a test model of the C5 generation Corvette. The VW area pales in comparison to the Corvette display though; they’d probably be better off just focusing on Corvettes. I almost skipped the VW section entirely, as all it really has is a couple of the “Herbie” cars from the Disney movies. The gift shop is a haven for Corvette lovers, with every kind of Corvette-related item you can think of for sale. I was especially excited to get a great price on a cool Corvette shirt from a clearance rack. Overall, it’s a good place to stop and see at least once, but there’s not enough to compel me to visit again anytime soon.
