Elawa Farm is a beautiful spot to visit, especially on Wednesdays in the summer months when they have their farmers market. There are always beautiful hand cut wild flowers from the Savannah. They also have baked goods and local produce.
We visited this summoner and not very many people were there so it was nice o walk around and explore. We went in the reptile house and it was amazing I could't believe all the exotic snakes they had its a must see.
To add to what was shared in the earlier reviews:This restored "gentleman's farm" includes a Hay Barn with posters that illustrate the history of the property. The outdoor wildlife exhibits are home to Boris the Bobcat (who has expanded and remodeled digs), a kookaburra, hawk, owl, etc.The trails are extensive and lovely. Carry water if you're planning a long hike.Additionally, the garden (which provided vegetables, herbs, and cutting flowers for the original owners) now provides produce for a Garden Market three days a week. (8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, Friday, Saturday). Chef Gale Gand's creations and her private-label root beer are also sold. Get there early for the best selection. There is a park in easy walking distance with picnic benches, a shelter with grills, a basketball standard, and playground equipment. Don't miss the lovely ten-foot tile and brass mosaic that encircles part of the playground. Fourth-graders were given photos of local wildlife (owl, turtle, frog, snake, etc.). The children made drawings of the creatures which were then cast into 3-D brass figures. There is a lot to do with your family at Elawa Farm.
This is a wonderfully restored working farm that can host a variety of events. The facilities are marvelous, and the location is beautiful.
Taking a walk back in time is what you will experience when you visit this farm. Great restored buildings, wildlife exhibits and excellent nature trails nearby.
Long, prairie trails for walking and biking. No dogs off-leash. There are several superb dog parks nearby including Prairie Wolf on Waukegan Road in Lake Forest, and Independence Grove in Libertyville. $10/day for out-of-county, $5 day for in Lake County and annual passes available.
