I love visiting Lake Forest in the fall.Lake Forest has a great village square and many shops to visit.
Downtown Lake Forest offers some wonderful boutiques and shops. You can find everything from upscale clothing, sporting goods or shoes to home accents and gifts. The local merchants are always happy to see you. Hungry? Stop for a bite to eat at one of the local restaurants, the beautiful european bakery or the candy shop that offers hand crafted chocolates. Shop for potted flowers or that special gift at Pasquasi's, located in the charming train station. Or, simply pull up a bench in the town square and watch the people go by.
Market Square was the first planned suburban shopping center in the country. It opened in 1916 at a cost of $750,000. A 1916 dollar buys $21.28 today. At the time it bought Italian Renaissance, Tyrolean, Bavarian, Flemish and English styles of architecture. It may sound like a hodgepodge, but it all works together to create an attractive combo of local and national businesses. There is plenty of street parking, as well as free nearby lots. From ice cream to sit-down dining, there is something for everyone. And that lovely building at the west end? former home to iconic Marshall Field's.
Fun spot to walk, shop and eat for all ages. Easily accessed by the train or readily available free on street parking.
A great spot to stop for lunch and have a wonderful salad or sandwich and a glass of wine. Simple menu. Outdoor seating is great option for summer afternoons.
Spent the day browsing the interesting shops on a trip to Chicago to visit my son. A nice mix of charming little shops and the expected "chain" shops. The staff at Williams Sonoma was especially friendly offering a sampling of a welcome cup of coffee on a rainy cold day!
The new owners have done a great job with a diverse and interesting menu. The nice weather, the patio is totally enjoyable. During the cold months, the dining room is comfortable and friendly. The wine list is broad and has many interesting selections at varying price points.
Good for lunch w/girls; as well as, dinner w/couples. Choice of outdoor garden, enclosed porch, bar w/tv's, & diningrooms. Have been here many times for both since they opened
If you can, this is the spot where you want to sit outdoors. Food is very good and service was a lot better this time around. First visit, not so much.
A nice, romantic shopping venue with the expected stores, but a couple of really stand out touches. The bookstore was a classic example of a stand alone, independent store. The farmers' market on Saturday across the street at the train station made for a wonderful experience, filled with fresh fruits and craft food products. There was even an incredibly picturesque fruit and vegetable store sandwiched in between two buildings, open to the sky. Prices were what you might expect in an upscale suburb, but easily walkable for a day.
Market Square is the center of Lake Forest and especially during summer, it's just a wonderful place for strolling, shopping or lunch al fresco. Toss a penny in the fountain...why not?
Many very nice independent boutiques featuring high end clothing, beauty items, books and gifts. Also a Williams-Sonoma, Talbots, J Crew. Be sure to visit the north and south bordering streets also (especially Westminster & Deerpath) for some great stores also.
Elegant, stately homes and a pleasant atmosphere distinguish Lake Forest as an extremely nice town. The town center is quitecharacteristic of this lovely place.
The welcome sign is out here and the table is well set. Food was delicious and the service responsive and friendly.
