Beautifully narrated from docents who know the history. Lots of anecdotes. Gardens are beautiful and lush. Lucky I live so close. Easy to visit. Very peaceful .
They shot a movie here. They apparently have concerts here too. Kids liked driving through to see their Christmas light display.
The Cuneo mansion light show is a bit of a throwback in time. We drove about 50 miles to see it only because we were both on the tail ends of winter "colds" and didn't feel like doing anything that involved walking. As we entered the gate, I started to laugh. Every major cartoon character from Spider-Man to Yosemite Sam is carved and painted on plywood, then illuminated. There are a few tree wraps. And a porta potty. After you pay admission, a nominal $5, the grounds are filled with lighted tree trunks and any number of illuminated outlines of figures. Trains, reindeer, angels, Santa, etc. No animation. The blinking lights are like the 60's. A crèche is in front of the mansion itself. The barn is illuminated as Santa's workshop. This is all- drive. You don't exit your car. Total drive time through the grounds at 3 mph is about 30 minutes. If you live close, it's probably fine, but I think most of us have come to expect a bit more. It's, well, quaint.
Awesome place with great history, been there for weddings and theChristmas light show! Won't disappoint
This looked like a beautiful place but I arrived and found the gate locked. It had a phone to ring to get someone to open the gate but the phone kept ringing and no one picked up. I also tried calling their main number but only got an answering machine. According to their website, I came during open business hours. I was frustrated.
We just called to find their location and they told us they are closed, no longer doing tours. They are fixing winter damage.
The Cuneo Museum is an incredibly beautiful mansion. That do Napoleon and Charles Lindberg have to do with Cuneo? The history of the home is fascinating so listen to the information as it is shared and you will find out. The grounds are serene and it is such a pleasure to walk to the gazebo or sit and relax around the pool. It really is a trip back in time that will help you appreciate the lives of the privileged. Take your time and really take in the beauty.
We attended a wedding at the mansion and were so thrilled with the setting and beautiful courtyard where the ceremony was held. Then the area was transformed into a cocktail area before dinner in the ballroom, which was like a fairy tale, The whole night was magical! We loved it!!
This property is an oasis in the middle of a busy urban environment and beautiful any time of the year. we just visited over Christmas and therir light show is awesome. Hadn't see it for many years and it has become amazing. Go this Christmas!
Visited on first Wed of month (free) and returned the following week for an evening concert on the lawn. The mansion is amazing but shows it's age well. The grounds are beautiful but the building needs some repair. It's good that this property has been saved and is being restored and made available to the public. Worth a stop if you are in the area. I wouldn't make a special trip.
We attended an antique car show at the Cuneo Museum, but the museum was closed that day. The grounds were beautiful. We saw many cars that we have never seen before in our lives. It was more of a high end car show for the rich and not so famous. Can't wait to go back.
Museum is part of Loyola University which my daughter attends, so we decided to visit. Home is on expansive grounds with beautiful gardens filled with statues. While not large by mansion standards (Meadowbrook etc.) it is very grand. Furnishings were antique even at the time mansion was in use. I especially enjoyed all of the artwork - both paintings, and the painted ceilings. Overall a beautiful home with history.
The mansion and grounds are lush and beautiful. It is a must see when in the Vernon Hills area. We recently held a corporate event here and everyone who attended had nothing but great remarks. It would be remiss of me not to mention the amazing owners Eddie and Mary of Bauer's Catering in Libertyville who ensured the event was better than great!
Wow! That says it all. The gardens and mansion are a real gem. Truly stunning and the service and food were excellent.
I visited in July 2012 with co-workers. It was a get to you know you type of occasion for us. We had a nice time and spent about an hour and a half touring the beautiful mansion and gardens, taking lots of photos. We especially enjoyed some of the statues and bathrooms - very unique for this area to say the least.
