Nice off the eaten path Federal park. Located four miles down a dusty gravel road out of Pomona ILL, it has a nice path to and around the natural bridge. Overall the bridge is not spectacular but the park offers a nice half hour walk. There are picnic tables but I did not see and toilet facilities.
The trail to the stone bridge is beautiful and enjoyable. It's not man-made. It's a natural bridge made of solid stone, carved by nature. It spans a valley in between twin rock bluffs, with a stream running through the middle of it. We like it best in April, when the trees are just starting to push out leaves and the fresh green doesn't smother the view. Although autumn is a riot of color. And after a winter snow, would be awesome. Summer is cool and shady. Heck, just go!
It was a beautiful hike and very short. My only reason for not giving it an excellent was the drive there. One lane road that requires your lowest car gear on the rocky gravel road. I was just glad that I didn't meet any other vehicles going down or coming up.
Easy hike and pretty cool as you wonder how in the world it got there! Not a lot of people there..and it was in the middle of nowhere...but worth the trip
The short hike to the Bridge is downhill, so the way back is uphill, just remember. Until you come to the bridge you don't really see much but a trail and then it is suddenly in front of you and really a wow moment. Go see it. But there is a LOT of poison ivy along the trail so make sure you know what it looks like and be careful.
The natural bridge is not that far off of the parking lot. It is a pretty easy hike on a good trail. Maybe 20 minutes...if that. Worth making a stop if you are in the area.
