Close enough to hone to go quite often. My husband likes to fish while I wander the trails. Excellent for families & picnics
We visit Silver Springs State Park every chance we get, in every season - it is incredibly awesome, clean and idyllic. There are several parking lots from which to choose your starting point for some fantastic hikes and exploration of this well-kept natural beauty. Camping is no longer permitted at Silver Springs Park, so in summer we always make advance arrangements to camp or reserve a bunkhouse at the Hoover Preserve, 400 acres literally just up the road from Silver Springs. Silver Springs and surrounding forests are awesome. It is especially refreshing to know that there is NO salt/frac mining taking place in this area, so no worries about inhaling or ingesting any polluted air or dangerous particles during your hikes and visits here... Don't miss it!
This place is confusing! Apparently, there are two entrances - the west entrance and the east entrance. I parked near the boat launch at the west entrance and from there, it's a little difficult to find the hiking trails. Once I got there, it was fine, but they still weren't marked very well.As I looped around, I came to the east entrance, which actually had a nice map of the state park and the trails it offered. Next time, I'll park at the east entrance. They have boat rentals and a concession stand, as well as abundant picnic tables. There are a lot of benches along the trail in case you want to sit by the river for a while. The hiking is okay. I would recommend this place if you're looking for a great picnic spot or want to go out on the lake.
It is a nice state park but it needs to be cleaned up big time. Especially along the paths. Last time I was there trash was all over and the marshes and ponds other than the main fishing pond are full of garbage too.
We went to Silver Springs State Park for the afternoon. It is in the process of being rehabbed but is still a great place. The glass bottom boat ride is neat. There are beautiful trails. We rented kayaks for an hour long float. Saw alligators, turtles, and monkeys. Our 13 year old granddaughter had a blast! Well worth it!
This park is a great place to visit nature. The fishing is good if you know how to fish. The park gets alot of pressure, so the fish are very picky. As with most state run parks, under staffing and general disconcert for our natural resources as compared to other states, shines through. Don't get me wrong, this is a nice place to short hike or pick nick, but compared to other parks, its kinda lame.
The scene here is absolutely beautiful!! So many trees, the crick is beautiful. I had never seen a spring before, and that was neat and the water tasted great! It's a great experience.
Great hiking trails. We love it and the dogs love it. The path is not overly groomed, it's hilly in parts, and the scenery changes throughout the trail. Not too crowded.
Don't overlook this local gem. Enjoy nature or cast a line in the parks lake or the adjacent Fox River. Don't forget your picnic lunch but if you do refreshments are available.
We canoed from Yorkville to Silver Springs State Park last week. We had a lovely paddle along the Fox River and then enjoyed a nice picnic lunch at Silver Springs. They have a nice hiking trail along the river and other trails through the woods. We visit this part often and always enjoy nature there.
a great place to have fun with your family.fishing. hiking. walking. biking boating.it's a great place to be. Me my son and his friend love this park.
My husband and I went here in the fall and colors were amazing! I love taking pictures and some of my favorite photos were at this park! You can rent paddle boats and fish on two lakes. Has nice trails through the woods. I look forward to going back and maybe taking my dogs this time. They also have camping sites here too!
This place could use more parking areas but it is worth searching for them here. There is a concession stand by the lake where you can get snacks, rent a paddle or row boat, they have annual events throughout the summer months including a shuttle from a nearby location by a local bus company for people to do charity events such as the Polar Plunge to help the Special Olympics. Have a great sledding hill in the winter, when there is snow! They have hunting and fishing days in the summer, once a year where the entire place just booms with adventure and fun things for the whole family. There are quiet picnic areas, horseback riding areas but you have to bring your own horse. Its really a great place to just feel a million miles out into the wilderness while not far from civilization at all!
Beautiful scenery, nice lake, great trails. Nice place to drive or walk through. Great place to visit in fall when the colors are changing.
If you would like to go somewhere for the day I would suggest Silver Springs State park. There is alot of trails and if you are a fisherman the fishing is a good place to try. It is beautiful and worth the trip to spend the day at this beautiful and relaxing spot. It is also clean and there is alot of room to fish off the shore.
