Our 6 year old loved it, especially the movies. I could not recommend it more. Only negative is the smell of Subway near the children's play area.
Our family goes to the Lincoln Museum once a year. We do so to show our younger family members the importance that one person can make in the world. Our large family travels from all over to come to Springfield. It is that important. The museum is well thought out, well designed & well equipped to show case Mr. Lincoln, his family, his political career & his struggles. There is much here about the Civil War & what lead up to it also. The displays are so poignant, that many people get teary- eyed as they walk through the halls. (Myself included.) Depending on what display you are looking at,it can be quite solemn. I always feel like I know "Honest Abe" a bit better after having been there. There is a nice cafeteria style restaurant for lunch & snacks, but I always feel it is "pricey",especially since there is a fee to get into the museum & it is not cheap either. A very nice gift shop is on site also, featuring everything a Civil War & Lincoln history buff would want, and then some. The staff is & helpful and used to dealing with crowds & kids. If you want to see the whole Lincoln experience In Springfield, this is a good place to start.
A MUST see, whether you are from out of state or an Illinois resident. I suggest a full day if not two. There is a lot to see and read. I have been there many times, with school groups, and on our own. Every time I, we, go I see something I hadent seen or noticed before. There are also new exhibits all the time.
This is our 4th visit, and it doesn't disappoint! We hadn't been in a few years, and our daughter is now 11 & can understand more, so we wanted to revisit it. Fabulous! The two theater presentations are spectacular, and the wax figure displays incredible! Can't recommend this enough!
This is a must do when visiting Springfield. There is a lot to see here especially if you are a history buff.
See both the state-of-the art movies. Fantastic exhibits. We spent about 5 hours there. The museum staff is very knowledgeable and pleasant. We took the art tour (free), which I would highly recommend. The tour was about 45 minutes. The Subway is a little below par, and we eat at Subway all the time. The tables were all dirty, and the employees seemed to be just standing around. Food was ok.
Went with my nephews and sister in law for the kids spring break. Nice museum, we got the AAA discount so it was $11 for adults not sure what the kids price was. Definately want to do the shows they were excellent and really made the trip. I loved the ghost of the library show with the holograms and real life mix. I also thought the other show was entertaining and the kids got a kick out of the moving chairs and smoke! A lot of interesting things to see in a well kept museum.
Top notch museum, very modern, very thorough - well worth the stop if you are traveling in the area.
Definitely a must see in the land of Lincoln. Very family friendly, awesome recreations and something to see for the whole family. It is staffed by great volunteers who are very knowledgeable about Lincoln. Spoil alert you just may see Lincoln himself. They are planning a lot of special activities for the month of May recreating his funeral.
We went as a large group, but there was enough to do, and the exhibits were spacious enough that we were not cramped to see the displays - even when a school brought in several buses of children. The theater presentations were amazing and gave lots of information. I enjoyed that both positives and negatives about Lincoln were put forth. The variety of displays was wonderful- a log cabin featuring what his boyhood may have been like, recreations of portions of the White House, election posters as well as political cartoons- it was a thorough melding of the life of a man. The sections devoted to just the Civil War - such as the digital diorama showing the battles and death counts, and the portrait wall with hundreds of soldiers pictures were sombering. It was helpful to give a humanity to a war that is often just so many numbers and statistics. The children in our group (and even some of the adults, too) enjoyed the children's room, where they could dress up, look at book, and pretend they had stepped back in time 150 years. We ate lunch in the attached Subway and were quite pleased with the efficiency and service.
