We ended up here by accident (and luck). Main street, which has all the stores and tourist, was pretty full and no parking. So we decided to park at the other side of river, and found this peaceful park!Walked along river and enjoyed the silence. Not too many people, compared to the other side.Next time I visit, I will bring food to do a picnic.
This park isn't the most modern, but it fits the environment that surrounds it. The grand homes across the street, the cannons and statues on the promenade that borders the river, and the fountain are reminiscent of the town's history. Great views of the town across the river! Stay away during the Country Fair weekend each year - thousands upon thousands of visitors flock to this park where they have crammed in hundreds of crafters, and moving about is a lesson in frustration!
they filled hte river to park cars, and so this has one statue and is a huge parking lot, why bother? The river was great until they ruined it.
Nice stop w some historical cannons and gazebo. The highlight is the view of Galena. Great place for a summer picnic.
Nice little park on the East side of Galena. You can picnic there or simply enjoy the view of Galena. There are a few pieces of playground equipment for the kids.
Despite the unseasonably cold weather for mid-November, Grant Park was a very scenic area, rich in photo-ops!
It was very pretty, some history info there. A nice walk outdoors. Not too big so just a short walk.
Just a short walk, historical statues and cannons on a well manicured landmark . NIcely kept and on the way to town, crossing over footbridge
Located behind the historic DeSoto Hotel -- and a short hike over the Galena River bridge -- Grant Park offers outstanding historic features that reflect the Civil War period, as well as beautiful flower gardens and an old-time band stand.
Very nice park. Didn't see everything here as I came during Country Fair weekend, and it was super busy. I visit Galena much parking was a breeze at city lot.Country fair weekend is busy and there were many thousands at Country Fair, Thank you.
We went to the Country Art fair at Grant Park. We stayed at the Desoto House and avoided the bumper to bumper traffic coming into Galena. The Park has a beautiful gazebo, cannons, and a large statue of Grant. I love the pedestrian bridge over the river to the park from downtown Galena. The area is very pretty and the park has some rolling hills. By noon on Saturday during the fair it was very crowded and the parking gets filled up. Liam's shard jewelry was very nice and I bought two pieces.
we walked around grant park around sunset and were very impressed. spacious and green, it was peaceful and enjoyable.
A very clean park, good view of downtown, within a short walk of Grant's home and full of Civil War information about their native son, U.S. Grant. A must visit, especially on a dry, sunny day.
We stopped here to do a little geocaching and talk about a litte gem - what a beautiful park! Neat artillery and gorgeous views overlooking historic downtown Galena. This is worth a stop!
Lovely landscaped Victorian park on top of the hill across the Galena River from town. Benches located along the edge of the park facing the river and town below afford a serene place to take in the scenery. Interesting canon artifacts on display, a statue of Grant, gazebo and children's playlot. Take advantage of free parking on Water St. and take the walking bridge over.
