In any weather, the lakefront trail is the place to experience this great city and beautiful lake. Celebrate the weather, get out and enjoy Chicago.
I LOVED this lake front trail. I love walking and this trail that runs for miles is awesome. Plenty of parking and beautiful sights.
I loved jogging and observing the scenic views that this trail offered. It was really neat to run along the water and to see the beautiful architecture up close and in the distance. I also enjoyed seeing an closeup view of the frozen lake, in addition to taking in the sights after my run. I look forward to future runs on the trail while visiting Chicago!
The lakefront trail is absolutely beautiful. I've ran and biked the trail numerous times and it's one of my favorite places to go with a close friend as we walk the path. Walking along the lakefront is absolutely breathtaking and I've often had to stop a morning jog to watch the sun rise over Navy Pier.
Eben though it was only 6 degrees out, I have to run this trail each time I am in Chicago. this is easily one of my favorite places to run in the country.
Walking along lake Michigan to Navy pier is a great experience, wonderful views, The pier goes on forever out to a great arena wher the views back to Chicago are awesome
I some times run are bike the lake shore and I notice there is something for every taste. The beaches, the food, people with their dogs, running, swimming, having some family time. My favorite is the part from Ohio Street beach to the north because you have the Marina, Lincoln Park and the beach,
Wow! Breathe taking view... planned on doing a 3 mile run and ended up being a 10 mile run. Def recommend to all runners, cyclists and athletes.
The lakefront trail is beautiful and offers stunning views of Lake Michigan against the backdrop of the Chicago City Line. It is definitely something that should be experienced by everyone whether it be on foot or by bike. Like others I would recommend being alert - not so much because of cyclists but more so because it can be surprisingly isolated and feel slightly sketchy at times. I imagine this is not the case during the summer but both times I visited, there were moments there was nowhere else in sight. With that being said having the path to yourself is also quite peaceful and the views along the loop are quite spectacular.
What some people don't realize is that Chicago is lined with beaches and outdoor activities, the Lakefront Trail included. Yea, you need to be careful, and I wouldn't recommend riding a bike on the trail on Saturdays in the Summer (too crowded and dangerous). But for a runner/walker, or for an evening stroll when it's warm, the lakefront is the best.
Love the bike/walking path along the lakefront, but it is risky to ride, because of all the walkers who don't know the path etiquette: Stay to the right so cyclists can pass you! If you love biking, the stretch from Monroe Harbor south is much less busy and easier to negotiate when riding. Or go very early (6AM summer...)
Thank god our city's founding fathers had the foresight to leave the lakefront for the public! It's like we have our own ocean. I prefer the trail when it's not too crowded. The winter full moon is an excellent time to enjoy and watch the trail of airplanes flying into the city at night. Only downside are these guys dressed like Lance Armstrong speeding along the trail like there are professional riders. Everyone know that true talent trains at altitude.
Walked this trail to get to the beach and also saw great views of the city. Nice and quiet this time of year and a lovely view of lake Michigan. Few runners or bikers.
Whether you are walking or riding a bike, the trail gives you access to beaches, restaurants and endless views of Chicago. Many places to rent a bike and helmet along the way. Also gives you access to Lincoln Park Zoo, Navy Pier and Michigan Avenue. Can be super busy on summer weekends, so be alert at all times. Especially nice after 5:00 pm in summer as the crowds decrease and the glow of the setting sun on the lake and buildings is lovely.
We utilized the trail to bike around Chicago and see the lake, and use the bike share to go from the Wrigley Field area to the Loop area. The trail is nice, in good shape, and fun to ride on. Great trail for running, biking, or walking to see the lake and people watch. There are even some art installations on the trail.
