Creepy place. We walked through store area and opted out of animals and grove. Good place to film a horror film.
I was looking for a local activity to take my 3 & 4 yr old grandchildren to and this place came highly recommended by locals. Reviews on here made me leery, but I know people can have overly high expectations at times or just be sketchy so we gave it a shot....Yes, the store is an older establishment and reminds me of an old Five & Dime store, but you can tell they work hard to keep improving it.The eclectic store area is huge and can be kinda hard to navigate...there is just SOO MUCH stuff to look at! (Great for souvenirs to take home!) You have to go to the back snack area to pay for admission to the wildlife park/putt putt area and get your bag o' animal feed. You walk alone, at your own pace, and take your time with the animals you want to see. *Side Note: We didn't do the putt putt, but it looked fun and the decorations were awesome!Once you go thru the dino area, there will be three doors to three buildings. Go thru the one on the far right first (this is the area where the animals can be fed.) Once you come back out that door, you can go to the reptile area (middle) or the bird area (left). *Use your food in the first area, but remember there are a lot of animals! Don't forget the monkeys at the end!I found all animal areas to be in excellent clean condition and all the animals were healthy looking. (Have no ideal what the other reviewer was talking about!) There is A LOT of walking to do and some areas have uneven ground, don't think this would be great for someone who has trouble getting around...Now, I had my two teenage boys (14&16) with me also and I swear I think they had more fun than the little ones! I enjoyed the heck out of it myself! I think the "so ugly it was cute" large bird was my favorite. There was even a little play area with a plane! All in all, it was an awesome experience I plan to repeat. I thought they were exaggerating when they said it would take a couple hours, but we were there for three and could have stayed longer easily! If you like things a little on the wild side-you're gonna love it.
This is a quant place to visit. A little eccentric, old time Florida souvenirs, a nice mini animal zoo, fruits, cards, soda, gifts, ice cream. Everything a vacationer would want. You can send home whatever fruit is in season from oranges, grapefruits, tangerines, enjoy various nuts, candies, coconut creams to pralines. Sign up for monthly weekly or annual deliveries to your friends and relatives in the north. Your visit will start with the eccentric owners who appear to be second or third generation fruit growers. They are eager to please, and talk about old time Florida. They have eccentric presentations including western, Elvis and unique wall airbrush art done by their son who is an apparent good artist. This is a real must see to get in touch with old time Florida. It is very interesting and unique.
This is nothing but animal abuse, poorly taken care of and dead animals in exhibits. Needs to be shut down.
This place is a joke. We walked in and there wasn't a person in sight. We walked back to where the fruit was and it was disgusting. I don't know how long the oranges had been laying there but there were fruit flies all over them. Don't waste your time or money!
This place is filthy and scary. Full of Banana spiders and the animals look like they need medical attention. Very sad. I would never bring my children there again.
This was my first trip ever to an orange grove. I was completely in awe. I was raised on a farm, but this is totally different from anything I have ever seen. Inside the store was so much cool stuff. Alot was tourist nick nacks...typical of a roadside tourist attraction. But I love that kind of thing! They had old soda flavors that I haven't seen in years. I especially liked the metal artistry...I loved my trip there. Not to mention the tasty Navel oranges and tangerines. There's definitely a return visit in my future! There is also a petting zoo for the kids that has a small fee for food for the animals.
Visited this mid-Dec 2014 - absolutely worth it. Very reasonably priced. The zoo has so many different animals and birds. Lot of effort has been made by the owners to make it a top-notch attraction. Interacting with so many animals and birds was a dream come true. Highly recommended
This is a very nice place for all ages. The store has all kinds of unique things to see and buy and there are themed rooms. The zoo is awesome, very large. You will see a lot of different animals. You can even feed them. You can even play 18 holes of miniature golf. I love this place and can't wait to go back. We had so much fun and we spent about 3 hours there. The prices are very reasonable. I recommend this place to anyone and you can even have a birthday party there. Before you leave you might want some ice cream. The owners are very friendly!
Used to go there for oranges, juice, to send citrus to friends/family. Little zoo in back was cute for the kids.It has certainly seen better days, dirty, depressing, citrus gotten expensive and limited. Forget about the free fruit if you send a package, nothing generous about this place anymore - no idea what happened, but it's not a fun place to say the least. The jams, sweets, etc. look as if they're petrified years ago, the "souveniers" are made in China.Really sorry to see this local landmark in such a bad state.
It was super fun. Definitely old. But the animals seem happy and it was a blast for a couple of bucks. You can feed most any of the animals they have. They even provide you with bread and food for them for like $4. Good cheap fun.
My daughter and I absolutely LOVE going to Boyettes Grove. We go several times a year and it is never the same with each visit. Okay, let's address complaints from other reviewers. Yes, I agree it could use some cleaning up, however, the clutter and utter "randomness" just adds to its old time charm. I also agree it can feel kind of creepy at times, but I personally enjoy things that are not cookie cutter. I feel like it is a wild adventure to embark on every time we visit. There is no shortage of things to look at whether it be an animal to visit with, antique, artwork, history lesson, etc. Jim has added on a huge field to better accommodate the animals that is REALLY nice. I see improvements for the animals every time we are there. He loves the animals very much when obviously someone else did not. It is fun to browse through all of the, let's face it, junk in the store. Don't plan on finding nice clean top of the line merchandise. I would say to lighten up and have fun treasure hunting! These are genuinely good people, that provide an inexpensive, fun experience that we would rather have than the typical theme park Florida experience. It's a self paced, minimal crowd, day of fun and adventure...and yes, sometimes creepy. If he sold annual passes, we would buy one.
This was the most heart breaking "zoo" I've ever been to. The authorities need to close it down and rescue the animals. The pig has an awful skin condition, many animals seem to be starving! The gators homes are deplorable. The snapping turtle's aquarium hasn't been cleaned in who knows how long. I will have many sleepless nights after this tour. Someone please help!
My experience here was an extremely awful one. I will start by saying that I do understand that these animals have been donated but I will also state the very obvious of what I saw. Every animal that I laid my eyes on here looked miserable. There was a spider monkey who must've recently lost one eye and was left with a blank hole (which is extremely infectious) I saw a mini horse who was limp on her back leg and could put no pressure on it , a mini horse who had a huge bleeding cut on his neck,(which I do have pictures of) and another mini horse whose hair must've not been brushed in months as it was very matted. Every animal was in extremely poor conditions and depressed isn't even the word for how these animals probably felt. I left feeling heartbroken for these poor animals.
We visited this "attraction" because we had fond memories from many, many years ago. It had a new sign on route 50 which brought back pleasant times. The gifts are the same gifts that were there then! I don't think they had been moved. Empty soda bottles and coffee cups were in displays around the store. It was dirty - old - worn out. It's free so we didn't waste any money - we wouldn't eat anything there due to the conditions. The State of Florida should not allow them to serve food.
