Each time we visit Homosassa we kayak around Monkey Island trying to take photos of their cute antics. But, they're usually too fast for a really good photo, but we still try and enjoy watching them flip from one branch to another, go up and down ropes, and just keep sitting and posing for the passing boats. You can also watch them from a distance at a nearby restaurant, but going by in a kayak or canoe or pontoon boat, is very special and entertaining.
Gilligan's island monkey business! Easy to see from shore or the local eatery. Monkeys swing and climb and cavort. Their one means of escape, the small ship, lies unattended. Things must be going well for the monkeys since not one seemed at all interested in addressing the necessary repairs to the craft that would permit the five to sail away.
Great to see while on a boat or dining at the Crab House or Monkey Bar. If you take a tour boar you will hear the history of the island and the monkeys. There are currently 5.
We stopped off at the Riverside Resort restaurant and thought it was a bit strange to be dining and looking out at a little island inhabited by 5 spider monkeys. Not really sure what to think of this place.
My wife and I stopped to see Monkey Island that we had heard so much about. The famous Monkey Island is at the Homosassa Riverside Resort. The resort cares for five spider monkeys that live on an island, which the Yardarm Lounge and Riverside Crabhouse overlook. There's a great history as to why the monkeys live on the island, mostly do to with the historical connection with the wildlife park in Homosassa.
A boat launch with a few restraunts with monkeys on an island to watch while eating also has bar and gift shop
